While I was never a fan of his game, I think he’s been awesome for us. Imagine when Malkin gets back. DEPTH.

More like not a fan of his team. Carter scored a lot of goals against us as a Flyer.

Never a fan of his game but definitely willing to give him a chance though, right? Haha

He's kinda just added to the group seamlessly. It's been pretty much all positive to my eyes. He doesn't do much wrong on the ice.

Real solid, still has speed which was the most surprising to me. I knew he'd still have his shot.

I'm curious what part of his game anyone couldn't be a fan of. Is it his scoring capability, his great shot, his strong skating, his good faceoff percentages? As far as I know he's never been known as a defensive liability, or an inconsistent, streaky player. Is there something I'm not aware of in "his game" that we should be more critical of, or is overlooked as a serious flaw?

I think many here, including myself, really didn’t know what to expect since most here probably don’t watch a ton of a LAK games. That said, I think most jumped to conclusions due to his age which is fair to a degree. He's 36 years old, so he's obviously not the player he was ten or even five years ago, but I think many of us had assumed age at hit him harder than it actually did, and clearly that isn't the case.

Motivation is also a hell of a thing. I'm sure for a player like Carter who figured he's going to close out his career on a non-playoff team is feeling quite revitalized heading to a playoff team with another chance to make a run at a cup.

And we all probably experience some degree of PTSD from aged vets after last year. I was definitely one of the people who saw the trade as us picking up a over aged vet. Admittedly I didn’t watch to many Kings games. I thought he was probably cooked to a point but still a little better than Jank so it was whatever. I’m glad I had low expectations because every game I have been happy to have been wrong.

For me it was an impact thing, and I also thought we gave up higher picks originally. My whole stance is that this team needs another clear cut top 6 caliber forward to be competitive from a talent standpoint, and anything short of that just wasn’t worth our assets. Once I really looked at Carter’s numbers and realized that the picks we gave were less intense, I was fine but unexcited.

But he’s been incredible here thus far. In his short sample in Pitt he actually has been a top 6 quality forward, and more than that, he’s done it in a top 6 deployment given Malkin’s injury. There’s a chance he could actually have an even better impact once his deployment eases up with Malkin’s return even if he does lose McCann to Malkin. And to be honest, I think it’s the Carter-Zucker dynamic that has really made that line hum and McCann’s been somewhat of an ancillary piece. If anything, I’m now even more disappointed that we didn’t take that extra step to get Malkin a scoring winger because if we had that, this would be a really, really potent group with a top 9 that could run with just about anyone and one of the best 4th lines in the league.

The Athletic subscribers here should really read the CBJ article that just came out. Three ex-CBJ vets were interviewed under complete anonymity to discuss the CBJ culture and what is bad and good about it and what’s leading to the perception that no one wants to play for CBJ. Really interesting stuff.

Maybe I’m being too optimistic, but if Geno comes back where he left off I think this team can run with just about anyone.

Not sure he’ll pick up where he left off, but kap should help him out if he can keep going like he has been. Has McCann been that good w/ carter line? Seems like a lot of his goals have been on PP. I like spreading the wealth to make the team deeper, but McCann geno n kap were pretty dominating, although it was only a short stretch.

Tanev wearing a regular jersey at morning skate. Maybe they get him back with a game or 2 left. Good sign though. At the very least he will be ready to go for game 1 I’d say with that week between season end and playoffs.
