I’ll preface this by saying I believe they get it together and go in hot to the playoffs. I said that last week and I still believe it. With that said wow what a disappointment Zajac and Palmieri have been so far. The team as a whole has been terrible and I’m sure that’s just a by product of it but they are an absolute, complete, non factor. - Cptmjl

Mathew Barzal fined $2,000 as supplementary discipline under NHL Rule 64 (Diving/Embellishment), the NHL announced.
Barzal was issued a warning Jan. 30 vs. Flyers. His second citation, hence the fine, came for an incident at 4:47 of second period against Caps on April 22. |

The refs clearly feel like it's a pattern with Barzal. To me, it looks like he gets mugged night in and night out, and defenders get a ton of latitude as far as what they can get away with when trying to keep up with him vs. other players. I always figured that was because he whines to the refs a lot, but if they feel like he's constantly embellishing, he's not going to get the benefit of the doubt on any calls. |

(frank)ing Leo’s fault
In all seriousness, whining, yapping back or embellishing are all ways to show up the Refs and they don’t like it one bit. As you said UIF he’s not going to get the favor of boarder line calls from the ref going his way, for or against.

And yet, Crosby has been whining to the refs for 15 years and getting away with it. Hard to understand.... |

Ah, I mean, I don't think he's a chronic embellisher. But the league apparently does. I think he takes a lot of slashes and hooks, and a lot of them are when he's in a good spot to make a quality play...either a pass or shot in a dangerous area...so I don't think he's embellishing and purposely taking scoring chances away from himself in order to get on a power play that couldn't score if it was 5-on-1.
I agree he needs to keep his mouth shut more. I get why he gets frustrated, but the refs don't want to hear that game-in and game-out.
I'm not sure why you're consistently on Barzal's case, though. It's clear he's trying to do too much and is making mistakes as a result, but you make it sound like he's Yashin loafing around out there. Every star player looks bad when slumping, and that's what's happening to Barzal. He's in a slump. |

Not so hard to understand...Crosby's been the NHL's golden child since the day he was drafted. Not saying that's fair, but it's just the way it is. |

Meh, not constantly on him. Just call it like it is. Love the kid and I totally respect his skating and talent, it’s second to none and when he plays well I’ll be the first to say it and love it. Problem is lately there’s really nothing to praise him about unfortunately. Others will blame it on others and make excuses. I’m just not gonna listen to that shat.
I agree He does get hooked and or fouled and if he thinks it’s a penalty without getting the call, he typically looks at the refs immediately and makes his displeasure known. He needs to keep moving his feet and draw the call. If he gets one great if not stfu and talk to the Refs on a break or just say nothing and let the coaches fight for you. It’s the same when a penalty is called against him. In every sport you can get a reputation you don’t want or respect from the Refs. The Refs are all egomaniacs and he’s not endearing himself to these asses. Unfortunately he doesn’t have the refs on his side and its hard to fight them. You are not gonna win. He needs to try a different course and change his reputation around.
100% agree, He is in a slump, as is the whole team. Imo Star players need to pick it up and help lead the team out of it. That’s not just on Barzal either.
Maybe we need to fire Barry? |

Not really. The NHL has different standards for different players. At this point it wouldn't surprise me if an opposing player broke his stick slashing Barzal and the refs gave Barzal two minutes for interference.
It sucks but that's the way it is. I don't know what Barzal can do to change it, but I completely understand why he is frustrated. |

What a joke the NHL really is.. I mean the guy has literally been spitting blood at least 10 times where there was no call on a high stick, cross check or some other obvious call in the past 2 seasons. He gets mugged every game and never gets calls... now they fine him for embellishing an obvious hook.
meanwhile Crosby had the most embarrassing dive I have ever seen against Boston and no one bothers to fine him.. absurd.
