The metrics on McCabe's defensive game all point to him being a top-level defensive player. The injury stuff sucks and you're pretty much guaranteed to only get 60-65 games, but in terms of stench, he isn't all that stinky

I feel for the guy. Good soldier and was having a great year. Tearing ACL in a contract year is tough.

Quinn a possibility too
Maybe Jj Peterka challenges as well ?

- jdfitz77

Quinn needs another year I would think.

Peterka is signed through next season in the German DEL. GMKA has a decision to make on whether to let him play another year there or bring him over to North America and have him play in Roch (I’m hoping for Roch)

Edit: Also if the DEL would let him out of the deal in the first place

In 2 years, I want
Joker Dahlin
Borgen Bryson
Laaksonen Samuelsson

- Buff36

If we are actually competitive for a playoff spot,
I’d still be more than ok with McCabe & Risto still here- but I’ve always liked both of them more than most

Quinn needs at least a year, definitely. He'd be in juniors in a normal year.

As of this moment I think in an ideal world both Bryson/Samuelsson would be bottom pairing LHD.

Both may have second pairing upside but it’s better to have a bonafide NHL d-man in that spot and forced out due to the competition then to be short handed.

Mike Reilly could make sense as Pach mentioned. Jon Merrill comes to mind as well.

Both LH & play the left side
Borgen should be the right side 3rd pair guy imo

That gives some games for Samuelsson to come up & play though
So it might not be a horrible thing

Sabres will have plenty of RD coming up through the system. Still have Kukkonen and Lyckasen coming.
- Buff36

Idk much about either
What’s their current projections?

I probably should have clarified that I think they are both 3rd pairing LHD. One as the 6th and one as the 7th.

I didn’t mean it as them being paired together.

I agree as Borgen as the RHD on the third pair

with the way he's been playing as of late, a team like anaheim or the kings might be interested in that facet of his game as well as his size and anger issues (real or feigned)...maybe?
- Michael Pachla

I’m sure there’s quite a few teams that would be interested in him

I hear ya. But I want no possibility of going back to the way we were playing the last 10 years.

New blood only pls

There’s usually an “out clause” if he makes the Sabres
If they think he still needs time, they probably let him stay in Germany bc they wouldn’t have to pay him- free development

There’s a certain poster who hasn’t been around and it just has to kill this person that the Sabres are winning games with Reinhart as the 1C and Skinner 1LW

And no it’s not Boss

Gotcha. That makes sense, although for next year i want Samuelsson plating 1st pair in Rochester getting the minutes

If only Sam was”tougher” then maybe he’d have scored 4 goals today instead of just 2

I think we need to slow on the prospects.

Need some leadership and some grit.

Not like punch in the face grit but tenacious forecheck grit.

I'm with you.

It's why I left a couple slots blank in my forward ranks for next year.

If he had another 40goal season, then maybe
But i can’t see how they’d consider him unless we really sweetened the deal- & i think that would be a bad idea

It will be a huge mistake if he’s moved and they don’t get a comparable player, and with his reputation I doubt it’s possible

I would too, but depends on cost

Skinner is a still good, but he’s aging and his cap hit is 2 mil too high
