Good blog. Yeah Price stinks. Allen should be the starter.

Good game. Brannstrom/Zub looked good.

Pinto played the same game I remember from the WJC a couple of years ago. Really strong on the puck. He won face-offs convincingly, something the Sens badly need.

Disappointed that JBD did not also start.

Tkachuk is a beast.

Montreal is not a very good hockey team. Lot of age and mediocrity in that line up. They have a very good prospect base and maybe it is time for them to pull the plug and move some of the older guys during the off season.

Not sure that Price is movable.

They've been Molly coddling Price. When he first got in the league he got Carbo fired, even though Halak should have been starting. Now he's screwing around when Allen should be starting.

I think the hands have a good mix, they're just not rotating guys in and out of the lineup to make sure they stay fresh. Karine, Habs blogger, mentioned that in the Habs blog.

Very curious to see how Caufield turns out. He's got so much potential

I'm rooting for Ottawa to lose and finish 30th.

If Ottawa finishes 3rd worst, not only will BUF and that team that finishes 30th be ahead of them - Seattle will be as well. That will put Ottawa in the 4th spot with it very likely for them to fall to 5th or 6th overall. That would be disappointing to me considering what we've been through the past 2 years and top 3 picks are critical to cup success

Most NHL points in 2010s

01. Kane - 1st
02. Crosby - 1st
03. Ovechkin - 1st
04. Giroux - 22nd
05. Tavares - 1st
06. Malkin - 2nd
07. Stamkos - 1st
08. Kessel - 5th
09. Wheeler - 5th
10. Backstrom - 4th
---------------------------------------------
11. Kopitar - 11th
12. Benn - 129th
13. Marchand - 71st
14. Seguin - 2nd
15. Getzlaf - 19th
16. Toews - 3rd
17. Pavelski - 205th
18. Voracek - 7th
19. E.Staal - 2nd
20. Bergeron - 45th
21. Thornton - 1st
22. Hall - 1st
23. Kucherov - 58th
24. Couture - 9th
25. Duchene - 3rd
26. O'Reilly - 33rd
27. Krejci - 63rd
28. Pacioretty - 22nd
29. Perry - 28th
30. Eberle - 22nd
31. H.Sedin - 3rd
(next 2 -- Marleau, Mackinnon - both 1st)

14 of the top 33 scorers in the 2010s were top 3 picks.
6 of the top 10 were top 3 picks (9 out of 10 were top 5 picks).
Only 3 of those 14 top 3 picks (Marleau, Thornton, Tavares) will likely not win a stanley cup, with Tavares and Thornton still having a strong chance

Who will be the top scores of 2020s? McDavid, Marner, Matthews, MacKinnon, Rantanen, Draisaitl, DeBrincat, Svechnikov, Stutlze* -- most of which are top 3 picks

Price is 33 going on 34. Even if he continues to play until he's 40, he's still on the downslope of his career. That contract looks iffy now, it's really going to be ugly in 2024 and beyond.

Where does Seattle get to pick? Do they go in the lottery? I have no idea.never thought about it.

I am all in for wins..i think the foundation of winning is most important now. Although i understand the thinking behind losing right now. I might even promote losing if i thought they would cash it in and bring in some high end elite talent.and put this rebuild into fast forward but that is likely a better scenario for the 22 draft

Pretty sure their locked in at the third overall lottery position (not draft position).

I go back and forth on the wins vs top pick argument. I still think this team really needs one more elite piece (preferably a centre). Adding a Guenther or Johnson would go a long way.

During this coming draft, we will pick into the top 5. My top 4 choices would be Guenther, Beniers; Johnson (if PD wants a forward); Brandt Clarke is the best RD available; this would sort out our need for Chabot's partner for the next 7 years!

I would offer up Ottawa's 1st pick in a package for Eichel. Likely gives Buffalo two top 5 picks. Ottawa has great prospect depth and a few really good mid range players that would allow them to offer something very, very strong.

Eichel is 24 years old, he is under contract for the next 5 years. He instantly fills the missing gap in the Ottawa roster.

But, before going forward with an offer, I would need to better understand how serious or risky disk surgery is for an elite player.

Brandt Clarke just turned 18 years old. 2023 - 2024 is the year in which he will able to play with Chabot consistently.

I'm offering up a blockbuster. This trade uses the unit of trade value set by the Maple Leaves: taking a horrible 6 + million contract for one year is worth a 1st Rd pick (ie Marleau to CAR). Therefore, taking Skinners contract is worth 2+ 1st Rd picks. Keeping that in mind:

OTTAWA: 1ST Rd pick 2021, Brannstrom, Brown or White

BUFFALO: Eichel, Skinner, Ullmark

Essentially Buffalo gets the 4 1st Rd picks it wants for Eichel. I'm sure Buffalo would want Pinto instead of Brown/White. I'm okay with that but others might not be. Ottawa gets the true number one center it needs and Buffalo gets out from under a horrible, un tradeable contract.

I had Murray as an add on to make money work for Eugene but PD will never admit that contract is a huge mistake.

Seattle isn’t locked in at any pick. They will have the same odds as the 3rd worst team, but still go into the lottery.

Very good idea. Canucks/ Detroit or any of the bottom feeders this season could make that same offer.

I reckon it'd take the 1st plus a roster player and a couple of solid prospects ready to make the jump.

at least that, if not more.......and IMO will be WAAAAAYYYYYY too much for a player who has repeatedly shown that he's not a "team guy" and really only cares about himself.

i wouldn't want ottawa to trade for him.

Mckenzie will have a draft ranking episode on TSN tonight. I'll be very curious to see where ranks all the players.

Watch Ottawa wind up 4th or 5th after the lottery, and have Johnson, Guenther and Beniers taken.

then you take power or clarke.....that's the thing with this draft, there is no clear cut #1, or even a real clear cut top 5. i'd say the top 10-15 players in this draft are pretty interchangeable in terms of talent and potential

People say that, but as time goes on there's more consensus coming forward.

Power, Guenther and Beniers are routinely in peoples' top five slots.

first link when you google "2021 nhl mock draft" shows a ranking that only has 1 of those 3 in the top 5

https://www.ontheforechec...l-ranking-prospects-picks

in fact, i went through the first 7 links, and not one of those rankings has all 3 of those guys in the top 5. all in the top 10, but none with them all top 5.

power was in far more top 5 rankings than guenther, as was Eklund

like i said, this draft is a complete crapshoot
