Will Ovechkin pick up the scoring pace. The way he's going he won't win the Rocket Richard...

He's won that already, AND a SC. How much you really think he cares?

He's likely never going to win the Rocket again in his career, especially not at his age and with the level of young competition on other teams.

However, I 100% agree he needs to pick up the scoring for two reasons.

#1. If there is a chance he will beat 99's goal scoring record or be the only player in NHL history to reach 900 goals he really can't afford to slow down.

#2. I've been saying it for a while and it's pretty clear at this point. Even if he's not the only person winning games. The Caps seem to win or lose based off if Ovi is scoring or not. For some reason he seems to get the team going and that needs to continue if they have a chance at winning a few more cups.

He brings a certain level of grit and energy that the rest of team feeds off of.

Sheary brings grit...IDK, I liked Sheary with Crosby, but never once did Sheary bring anything relating to grit lol

Patty M got me thinking yesterday. He just broke the record for most NHL games played.

Right now Ovi is on pace for potentially....
Most Goals all time
Only Player to reach 900 goals
Most Game Winning Goals
Most PPG's
Most OT Goals
Most shots on net
Most Hits
and I believe a few more records.

I know there has been a lot of talk about him going to the KHL, retiring soon, etc. However, given his age and durability so far.

I wonder if seeing the all time games played record being broken last night might give him the idea that in a few years if he stays durable and keeps playing, he could break that record as well? (or at the very least, inspire him to play a bit longer.

No I don't think he's actually thinking about it, but it was just a thought that came to mind at another record he could hold by the end of his career.

Not even including the few games left this year, he would need to play 82 game seasons for another 6.8 years... That's only 43 years old, he doesn't seem to be aging and it's not uncommon for superstars to stick around into their 40's.... I believe to date there have been 69 players stay into their 40's.

It's not impossible and if Ovi has showed us anything, he loves to break records and do what others can't.

Just a thought
