no mention of Anthony Mantha? he's probably the only loose piece that could draw a 1st right now.

I’m rolling my eyes while Sportsnet pretends that offense is Toronto’s big problem in the playoffs. Dubas has done almost nothing for the defense and keeps pumping money up front. Not good

Mantha isn’t moving. Taylor Hall got a second, and for both players you’re talking about potential. No one would give up a first for him. Also, Yzerman is trying to build a core. We’ve had more than a roster’s worth of turn over in 2 years. Hard to build anything without at least 4-5 guys that are sticking around. Only 6 players on the current roster have deals for next year. 7 counting Greiss

Mantha makes more sense as an off-season trade.

He’s not even getting considered as a trade at this point. I know he’s the name everyone likes to bring up. The value isn’t there, 3 more seasons at 5.7 and Yzerman wouldn’t eat that much salary for that long

Glenny and Bernier should both get 3rds. Staal and Gagner could get 5ths IF they're traded. I doubt Helm gets traded. We can only retain salary on 1 more player. It'll be Bernier or Staal.

Taylor Hall is UFA this offseason. Anthony Mantha is signed for a couple more years. Foligno and Dennis Savard drew 1sts. I think Mantha's worth more than all three of those guys. Even if he is a bit of a gamble, he's going to put up more points than any of those guys, and if you're pairing him with an elite playmaker, something Detroit doesn't have, he's going to score.

As much as Mantha frustrates me I'd rather just keep him. The ridiculous lowball offers I see on CFACGM are a joke.

That’s probably right. Boston and Washington are teams to watch right now. Both are having goaltending issues due to injury/inexperience. Glenny would make a difference for both PK units as well, especially of Bergeron or Backstrom get hurt

He's not an anchor and he's not old. Keep him until it isn't worth it or he's become that guy you want.

He’s not to those teams, not even close. His contract is crippling in the flat cap era. Foligno is a 200ft player and a leader (and expiring) and Savard is a lock down defender (and expiring). Teams. Don’t. Want. Term. Right. Now.

It’s not happening

Agreed, but I don’t think he gets enough credit for when he’s available. I think he had the 12th highest goals scored after 300 games in Detroit history, just 12 behind Z

I think Montreal could make some noise in the post season. If they face Toronto out the gate, defense and goalie battles go to the Canadiens. Matthews usually has a “let down” after 40 games, and is a slash away from being on IR. It may well be Winnipeg and Montreal in the North Division final

I mean if perception is souring on him obviously Yzerman isn't going to sell low. Just mean cap and term wise not the most likely trade deadline candidate.

Mantha's an enigma, sometimes hot - sometimes cold. But when that kid is on his game....Lord have mercy. He's got too high of a salary to move anywhere. He's with us for the duration of his contract most-likely. And I'm OK with that.

Yzerman values him more than the rest of the league at this point, for sure. But the cap being frozen again is going to keep teams in some trouble. For sure, not a deadline top candidate

Curious why Foligno is worth a 1st and plays wing, but Glenny is only worth a 3rd and leads the league in faceoffs.

Both have similar point totals. What is Foligno that much better at? Luke is actually a plus player this year.

I forgot how painful it is to watch these Sportsnet deadline shows. Does anyone else have a headache already?

Again, it’s perception. CBJ had a down year, but Foligno is looked at as a bigger presence. Glenny still looked at as a 4th line center

It's like watching The English Patient with commercials.
