Tkachuk is becoming a problem. He makes poor decisions (can't get it out of his own zone), has lost the will to be a major pain in the butt, and you thought Johnny & Sean were having problems scoring-- he never even shoots.
I wouldn't include him on an untouchables list, if other GMs are asking. Unless they trade everyone else older than him, he's never going to be a captain because I don't think he has the respect of the veterans on the club. |

Tkachuck’s bread and butter since he came into the league is his work along the boards, puck battles and battles in front of the net, something that’s been below expectations all season. This is an individual skillset that’s not going to improve depending on linemates and realistically we as flames fans are better off hoping for a bounce back year next year.
I also thought Vali was gripping his stick a little tight when he had the puck but that’s not uncommon among rookie D and a coach like sutter probably doesn’t help. Once he gets more comfortable though you can see he has the raw talent needed to become a top 4 D.
Now for the plus side.
-After almost a week off to practice this is as close as we’re going to get to how sutter wants this team to play this year. It should go for every point that this is only one game but to come off that week with a well played blow out win is a positive to take in a season filled with negatives
- the new lines provided some new life to the group. I think everyone including myself often forget that it was the chemistry between JG and lindholm that drove that line in our 1st place season, last night they showed they still got it.
The Mangiapane and Dube duo are the best thing since joints and sliced bread. They may not have the finish of elite players but they were constantly causing problems for the oilers in the O zone and were a great source of entertainment every time they were on the ice. Plus their ability to drive play and win puck battles seemed like a good match for monahan’s style of play.
The new D pairings were awesome together. I think we were all a little worried about how hanifin would do away from tanev. He came out with the new lessons learned and was rewarded with a beauty set up on the JG goal. I also think he took some of the offensive load off Ras allowing Ras to get back to what made him such a promising player.
- with 7 and a half minutes left I really started to realize how quiet of a night McD and Drai were having. At that point we were up 4-0 having allowed only 16 shots on net, the game ended up being 5-0 with allowing only 17 shots on net. We may not generate this kind of offense every night but if we keep playing this kind of team team defence we will surely be putting ourselves in a position to win games more often than not.
Overall we still likely won’t make the playoffs but if we can play games like that the rest of the way I will just be happy to be getting the team we as fans were not only expecting but deserved to get since the start of the year. |

To think if the Flames only won two or three games more they would have a legit shot of making the playoffs and yeah what the hell is wrong with Tkachuk he seems disinterested in playing. I would have no problem if he was traded. |

As far as Tkchuck goes trade him for the right price. The leafs just got a Foligno and neoson for a first and two fourth. Tkchuck is worth more then that I would think |

GG, you deserved that one 100%
Did Tkachuck come back for the 3rd? I had other things to do after the first two no-show periods... Looked pretty serious but you never know. |

Yes he did but he wasn’t on the ice at practice today. In my furthest from professional opinion I’m gunna guess he’s out 2 weeks give or take a week.
Either way this would be a great time to bring up Phillips and see what the flames have in him. I doubt Tre does it but I’d like to see it. |

A lot of 'special' people on CP saying sit like "if so and so got a 1st for their D, we should be able to get a 1st for Gio" - two sentences later they write "Why would Seattle pick Gio - an aging, declining defenceman past his prime"

Walker Duher

Here is what Duher is about:
He's big kid, uses his size, seems to skate well, can shoot the puck reasonably well and goes to the scoring areas. Comparison: Garnet Hatheway.
Lets see how he does in NHL. |
