I didnt mind the move as much as i was enjoying stillman. Conn was just too expensive to not be playing. Borgstrom could be hit or miss as weve seen he shows flashes but he was a rather late 1st rounder and they are never a guarantee. I would take hall only if he was cheap as hell which i doubt. Lets hope those subban rumours are just jerseys wet dream ive never thought he was any good and especially at that price

Subban? Ytf would FL want Subban? Lol, Zito would lose all the credibility he has earned so far. Unless NJ is taking both Yandle & Stralman back
Not very interested in Hall, either, at least not interested in getting in any kind of a bidding war for him.

I think Subban is a great ambassador for the game and a good guy. His skills have declined since his MTL days it seems. Whenever I think of him, I think of him doing his “running” on the ice. Haha.

It’s probably more realistic that Zito will go back to the CBJ well again before the TDL...

Please not Subban.
And yes it is time to panic. If we cannot compete vs TB or Carolina we will be one and done in the playoffs. In upcoming games we play TB twice and Carolina twice. The worst we can do is split going 2-2.

I’ll panic if they drop their remaining games to TBL and CAR.

Gotta see what moves are made and what the team looks like after Monday.

Good write up Matt. I agree with most of your points.

A few bonus comments:

I think the Panthers are still adjusting to the Ekblad injury in terms of schemes and it will probably continue until whatever Zito does with the trade deadline.

I don't see a need for Subban if we have Yandle. To me, Yandle is the biggest anchor on the team. A speed boat doesn't need two anchors. An excellent defend-first guy would be nice.

I agree on Hall. I don't think he's the missing piece we need, but if they can reel him in for cheap, maybe.

The power play has been pathetic lately. They struggle getting into the zone and keeping it there (Yandle). But they aren't getting good shots. Shots are too predictable, players aren't moving, they aren't taking advantage of net front presence and getting tips. Seems that all shots are into the goalie chest, glove, or high/wide.

For PP and even-strength, against Carolina, they are getting caught in extensive board battles which grind them down. When they do come away with the puck, it's a weak outside shot or a bad pass turnover. Again, not taking advantage of Hornqvist or other net front Panther to disrupt and get tips.

Time to panic? I don't know. The trend is not good lately. But there could be an element of Q turtling or rope-a-doping here. We know we're going to face these teams in the playoffs and Q might not want to tip his strategies too much yet. Besides what's left in the season, you could be looking at 7 more games against Carolina and Tampa. 15 games against the same two opponents is a lot in a year. I also saw an element of experience building in the last game. Keeper and Kiersted in at the same time against Carolina? That's less than 4 full NHL games of experience defending against Carolina.

Finally, not sure about the "bum slayers" comment. I think the Panthers have the best record against the other 5 teams in the division, better than Tampa or Carolina. They match up fairly well with Tampa. We just need some answers for Carolina. But this last game didn't have the intensity from the Panthers' side and it just seems like they're holding back.

Let's see if they hit Dallas with a vengeance this afternoon.

Go Panthers!

Thanks, Jimbo - killer points, man!

I agree about adjusting to Ekblad being out and how Yandle can weigh down the backend.

I like how Kiersted has looked this far, but don’t think Keeper adds much - both guys with small sample sizes, but Kiersted is much more noticeable.

Interesting thought about Q’s potential strategy, but I’m thinking the reality is the Panthers just don’t have it against Carolina. Not sure I’ve ever heard of a “rope-a-dope” strategy like that in hockey. It certainly doesn’t look like Rod is hiding his hand against Florida, you know?

I’m thinking we might get some trade news this weekend. Hopefully a defense-first guy (like you said) and some forward help.

Let’s get it going!

According to Jameson Olive:

Bob in net. Duclair possibly back Tuesday and Wallmart and Carlson joining the Cats against TBL.

Lineup changes expected this afternoon. Per Q, “We’ve got a couple.”

Good to hear. I mean, giving up a 3rd for him is cool in my book.

Let’s see what he can do.

Sloppy in our zone, can’t get possession - looking brutal right now.

Dude...another one. 3-0. Unreal.
