The PK suffered with the loss of Blueger and Tanev. If it had been Janks and Scevior not much would have happened. Those two mean a lot to the PK and were absolutely missed in the last two losses. Heart and soul guys with talent are always going to have a negative impact with they go down.
Malkin and Kappy have to get back and stay healthy Not much else is going to change the fortunes of this team heading into the playoffs. Staying healthy is the main goal

Getzlaf is going to look good in a Pens jersey on the 4th line with ZAR and Rodrigues

Getzlaf is the pipe-dream. Honestly, if the Pens found a way to get him I'd be find with Erod on the 3rd line with him and Zucker

Yah, he was brought up on the NHL.com podcast. I don't think he is a realistic target, but he does fit the "rental to win now" deal that Hextall wants to pull off.

Yeah, it's not happening. It's likely Bennett, Ryan or the like.

Bennett and the Flames have kissed and made up, so I don't think he is on the block anymore

Hextall seems to think prospects are a guarantee. That thinking got him fired in philly, and some terrible decisions on players.

I don't think you can really compare their situations. There just seems to be a mutual feeling from ownership that they'd like to start stocking the cupboard. Hex was clear that these prospects are not untouchable. The deal would just have to be really good, which I think is fair.

I thought he was fired for basically backing Hakstol, who was a terrible coach. Also, I don't think the situation in Philly was a good one. The fact that Holmgren went from GM to pres and still retained a bunch of power probably wasn't ideal for Ron.

I'm sure Philly fans will set me straight, but from what I remember the owner was impatient. Hexy wanted to wait a little longer for the youth to develop before adding and the owner wanted to get things going asap.

Probably Hakstol too. Anytime a coach or GM get fired it's usually multiple things.

Hakstol was a clown. Who knows if Hextall would still have a job if he hadn’t held on to Hakstol for too long. I thought that he had turned around a floundering Flyers window pretty well, but with this seasons’ short comings, maybe not. I maintain he was the best option of the retreads so I’m not upset we hired him, but a home run attempt with an assistant from one of the league’s premier FOs may have been better for us. Absolutely no reason to be upset at Hex so far, though. He’s let the team bank points and hasn’t panicked. Continues to do his due diligence and wants to help this team win now without making a bad trade. I like that.

Obviously too early to judge Hextall. I like this roster. I said it from day one. Unfortunately the Penguins are going to do what they do and get all banged up so there's no telling what they can do when fully healthy. I'm getting concerned Malkin will not get fully healthy for the rest of the season. We've seen him limp through a playoff before and the results were not good.

That being said, Hextall should attempt to give them some help. I'll be kind of pissed if he doesn't

While I’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t, I won’t be mad if we just can’t afford anything quality and stand pat. I prefer that to realizing you can’t afford anything quality, panicking, and then over spending for bad quality just for the sake of making a move. I’ve said on pretty much every game thread since February that this team has earned the right to have the GM make a good trade. That’s doesn’t mean that the GM is actually capable of doing so in real life given the assets we have. For example, Laughton would make our team better but I’d rather do nothing than pay a 2022 1st for him.

No way he goes for more than a 2nd. Blake Coleman got a 1st, but he was a better goal scorer and had another year of term at a very good deal. No way Philly gets a 1st

From all the interviews and reports he 100% wants to make a move, and a significant one if possible. I firmly believe if he does nothing it's because the deal just wasn't there and like you said, I'd rather him do nothing than make a panic trade.

Most of the articles I've read/pod casts I've heard,
Have said that this is a "buyer's market". I don't think that Philly is letting him go (let alone to the Pens) and I doubt he would even get a 2nd

Definitely.... No panic deals. Rutherford would always make me nervous this time of year. However, there should be some depth players available that won't cost a ton.
