Well, let's look at how it all current sits.
Keep 7 forwards, 3 D and 1 goalie:
Forwards: Parise, Zuccarello, Fiala, Foligno, Greenway, Eriksson-Ek and I am assuming Hartman over Sturm.
Defense: Suter, Brodin and Spurgeon
Goalie: Kahkonen
Keep 8 skaters and 1 goalie:
Skaters: Parise, Zuccarello, Brodin, Spurgeon, Suter, Fiala, Foligno and then a decision between Greenway, Eriksson-Ek, Hartman and Dumba.
Goalie: Kahkonen
As it sits, Guerin is being backed into a corner on Dumba. He either takes the best deal available at the trade deadline or probably lose Dumba to Seattle. The only other way to keep Dumba on the Wild is to convince Suter to waive his NMC for the Seattle draft. And even if Guerin does trade Dumba by the deadline, it really depends on what he is getting back, as in, will that player need to be protected as well. Say Guerin finds a center for Dumba at the deadline, then he might have to be looking at convincing Parise to waive his NMC to protect that player.
Best case scenario is Suter does waive his NMC for the Seattle draft, keeping Dumba on the roster. But then I would guess that Seattle would grab Talbot, which should throw Shady into a tizzy, as the Wild lose him without getting anything in return while he seems to be playing at his best ever. I think Guerin is still trying to get Parise to the Isles possibly. And maybe Guerin's plan all along is an under the table agreement with Seattle to let them draft Dumba, then trade the 1st Rd pick from Pittsburgh to them to get Dumba back. That quote from Captain Spurgeon about how tight the team is right now, kind of gives me the feeling that Guerin is going to stand pat at the deadline.
Long story longer, I think the Wild are going to lose a pretty good player for nothing to Seattle, no matter what. In order of who, I think it will be Dumba, Talbot or Hartman. |
