Its almost like when you actually give him ice time, use him on the PP, and put him with good players he can produce. Wow, what a shocking development, who would've thought... All it took was an elimination game to start using him properly again.
He had a great game today which means he'll be benched tomorrow because their coach is a moron. I really hope their season ends tomorrow, get him the hell out of that dumpster fire and over to NA into our system |

I think we should all tamper our lofty expectations for our youngsters - just yet.
Look at the Hughes commentary. The dude is still a kid! And hes being pushed around. I don't expect Holtz to come in and light the world on fire his first two years BUT the future looks soooo promising. |

I never said anything about him coming in and lighting the world on fire. I actually expect him to spend a lot of next year in Binghamton. I just want him out of that poop show team and over here where we can control his development, because they way they've handled him the second half of the season has been atrocious.
The same thing happened with highly touted prospect Dominic Bokk this season. The Canes loaned him to Djurgarden and he was completely invisible for 20 games, then they brought back back to play in the AHL and he's been much better. They arent handling their top young players well |

100%
I think Hughes is a good example. And it takes a long time to establish the quality youth we have (when was the last time we had such a good pipeline? Back in the Conte Days).
I just don't want to speed up all these youngsters. Wish Hughes had spent some time in the minors but he is also a marketing play as well. |

Agreed, i don't want to rush these young kids at all. If they earn a spot with the big club and show they belong then great, but it wouldnt bother me at all if all of Foote, Holtz, Mercer, Clarke, ect are all in Bingo next year. I'd rather overcook them than rush them(looking at Boqvist) |

Realistically, with al this youth - How long do you think we are a playoff team?
2-3 years? Then lets focus on that and not rush them.
I do think we need to make some free agency moves to bring in some quality vets that will be "meaningful" contributors 3 years from now. |

Yeah 2-3 years seems about right. The way i see it now is we need to acquire a legit consistent 60+ point top 6 winger, whether its in free agency or trade. We need someone who can actually play with Jack, pay what it takes. Thats my big add. Also agree to add quality vets that aren't just 1 and done here
I said it a few posts ago but i feel the timeline is next year i expect to be a bubble team playing meaningful games in the final month or so but end up missing in the end. Next year will obviously depend on what happens in the offseason and how much of a step the kinds continue to make. In 2 years im expecting to be a wild card team and get the kids a taste of playoff experience, even if its just 1 round. 3 years from now im expecting its time for this team to become a yearly playoff team, and be in position to contend for a 'division' playoff spot and win some rounds in the playoffs |

Palmieri and Zajac to the Isles is done, both 50% retained. Devils get back a 2021 1st, 2022 conditional 4th, AJ Greer, and Mason Jobst |

Bad trade for us
Palms and zajac with salary retained for a late first
Jobst is a career AHL player at 27 and Greer doesn't appear to be anything special maybe just depth
Would have liked to see zajac be a career devil |

mmmmmmmeh. Don't know anything about the prospects. Probably more of the same mediocrity. How negative, I know. Palms is worth a 1st on his own. Zajac is worth a 2nd. I'd like to bring him back next season.. he still has life in his legs. Wonder who we'll sign to watch over the kids. |

Seems like Fitz doing the players a service by sending them together to a spot to try to win something. We really aren't getting much out of this trade. |

Its pretty much a 1st for Palms and a 4th for Trav. The other guys are probably just throw ins for contract reasons. I don't completely hate it |

... hate to root against Palms, Zajac and Greene.. basically our most beloved modern-day Devils. Want that first to be as close to the teens as possible. The return doesn't set my soul on fire. I keep hoping to see someone rave about the prospects.. |

they aren't prospects. they are AHL guys. we traded for draft picks exclusively. |

the trade break down is Palmieri for a 1st. Fitz probably tried to get a trade where he'd sign right away but I bet Palms wants to test free agency so the trade value was lowered. Zajac gets traded for a 4th because this is the only team he'd waive his no-trade to go to. The prospects even up the contract situation since we're going to call up two guys from the AHL to be on the team/taxi squad and needed bodies. |

As i said its pretty much a 1st for Palms and a 4th for Trav, with 2 contracts thrown in to compensate. I much prefer the 1st over the heavily rumored 2nd and Bellows, so im not complaining |
