that's the thing though, is he gonna start practicing in the next 3 days?
Dude hasn't even started skating yet. I think, rather, I hope that they have a plan in place if Andersen doesn't come back - PatC80
I can’t see him returning.
I think he has a strained Basal Ganglia from reading too much TWITler. |

Yikes - 2 more years at 5.8M per the Kings better be willing to retain 2 M per year or more to me or I run far, far away very fast. And even then I'm only saying the Leafs pay him the 3.8 based on the assumption they can keep JC after next year (where he gets 1.65 M) for 3 M / per (ish). - Cush29
It would need to be at least 50% to make sense for the Leafs, and maybe not cost a lot, since they will likely be leaving him open to Seattle. |

I have faith in Dubas/Pridham et al. I'm not too worried, they know what they need to do..
I'll be honest, I don't think there is a need to panic... Dubas seems to have a good read on things. You could see that with the Galchenyuk trade he made.
With that said, I don't feel comfortable where we'd stand in goal if Andersen is done for the year.. I wish there was some clarity regarding the Andersen "injury" - PatC80
I don't know for sure, but let's say that Freddy is actually hurt. Maybe he tore his groin. Maybe he's got a strained ACL or MCL or something that is actually bad and that's why he's not on the ice. I don't think that's the case because they've said they expect him back. But let's say he is hurt.
Putting him on LTIR now fills our cap bucket and limits our options for acquisition of players. Remember LTIR takes a player's salary and fills you to the cap ceiling before then giving you the remainder as LTIR available cash (so if the Leafs were at an equivalent $79.5m right now, $2m of Andersen's $5m would first be deducted to get them to $81.5m before the remaining $3m was available for LTIR use).
There's no benefit in announcing anything about Andersen. It places them at a disadvantage in trades because teams _know_ you need a goalie, not just an insurance policy. As I said, it also affects them negatively in terms of cap if they LTIR him now. Some have argued that other teams should know he's out and will take advantage anyway. They might. But there's still no need to tip your hand.
The smart move is to full the remaining cap space with your acquisitions, bring that as close to $81.5m as you can, and then place Andersen on LTIR and use his full $5m cap room.
I recall Dubas saying that the one lesson that Lou taught him, "If you have time use it." repeatedly. I mean after watching what happened with the Marner and Matthews and Nylander contracts, perhaps he could have tweaked the way he learned that lesson, but still . . .

Campbell can succeed where Andersen couldn't, when people said Andersen wasn't succeeding because of the team in front of him.
Its the same team.
Its not a difficult concept. - joel878

Jesus, man. We weren’t talking about Campbell at the time. That’s the point. That’s the only point. Campbell was injured and the debate was simply about the degree of Andersen’s suckage. - Canada Cup
That's his point, both goalies are playing with the exact same team in front of them.
One is winning.
One wasn't, not only was Fred not winning he was helping them lose with soft goal after soft goal.
You didn't/don't agree. That's fine.
Fred still sucked though. It was obvious to some and proven to be true with the fact that he was either playing injured or he is suffering mentally/confidence.
Circumstance has kinda proven you Freddy wives wrong. Just move on.
We're winning again!!! |

Just curious.... - Garnie
It was meh. Guy was untouched at the front of the net, Campbell was fooled.
Now let me ask you a question, I'm just curious.
Was the goaltending Andersen gave the Leafs even remotely close to what Campbell has been giving them.
I'm just curious. |

I’m afraid to ask but, was that a good goal 5 hole last night or was it terrible tending? - Garnie
It was a good goal.
If you watch it in slow motion, Perry does just a little twitch that made Campbell react and then just as he tried to reset into position, Perry slides it under his pad.
If anything, it was a marvel of a goal by Perry.
(frank)ing love him in Montreal.

We used to same the same about Hyman so I'm a believer ...Mikky will get there too. - The Law
Mikheyev will get there... all that is missing is the finish. I think that has much to do with the wrist injury - which was bad.
I want to see a series of games with Spezza at center between Engvall and Mikheyev |

I'm a big fan/supporter of Andersen - but will say that Andersen hasn't had the "battle level" that he had in previous seasons. Whether that's mental or physical I don't know - and frankly don't care.
At the moment no rational non-fan boy can argue that Campbell is not the best option. Campbell has been the best choice no question - and until Freddie returns to this "battling self" - that SHOULDN'T Change.
only thing that worries me is that they may overplay Campbell - which would be terrible.
