Because people don't listen and go against it constantly. a 4 weeks lock down may not do anything because without police/military enforcing it, people will still go out and make up excuses. If EVERYONE listened, and every country did it right, COVID would be gone in a few weeks. But it is impossible to get that many people to listen without threatening their life/financial wellbeing.
- Retinalz

Example: China. They got over that poop much more quickly because everyone basically already wore a mask for viruses, and when they went into lockdown if you left your house you were shot.

Not against you personally but that's always the excuse. Contrary to popular belief in here even here in AB lots if not most were following all the restricted mandates for the better part of a year. But yet here we are. Having a Police state for two weeks with everybody shut in and expecting it to 'magically disappear' ain't gonna happen. Kind of like the virus 'magically manifested itself' out of nothing in a wet market in China lol.

Correct again. 13 months of mask mandates, Lockdowns and restrictions have solved absolutely nothing as was predicted. Christ even Harvard and Stanford released white papers about lol. Whatever anyone's political affiliation or belief-structure may be, this 'thing' will run it's course no matter what. Time to end the virtue-signalling and illusion of safety and get on with life. If you are scared stay home until vaccinated and quit punishing the healthy and small businesses.

People have their life savings invested and have double-mortgaged their homes to save their businesses. All we ask for our Govts is to be pro active instead of reactive and stop doing the same f*ucking thing over and over again as it doesn't work.

Suicide rates above 12 year olds are up 300% here. Would be nice for people to give a sh!t about that as well as just thinking inward about Covid.

Vaccine has been out for over 4 months now. Move on.

Are you a moron? Done nothing? Just look at South America as an example of places where they didn’t have mandates, and the results that followed.

Our current regime might not have solved everything, but they have certainly done something.

I never use China as a good example. They don't report anything properly, and I never read any reports that lockdowns were country wide. I would wager that they still have area's with issues and they keep the world blind to it, like so many other things.

My point is, that like seatbelts, a Covid vaccine isn’t 100% protection against injury or death, but if you you are vaccinated it significantly reduces the likelihood that you will get sick, and even if you do, it significantly reduces the instances of severe illness.

Get one or don’t, it’s none of my business, but saying it isn’t effective is dumb, and I know you aren’t dumb.

I also haven’t seen anyone here saying it’s 100% anything, or The answer to all our problems.

- 1970vintage

I just said it isn't 100% effective and that it doesn't fully protect you from it at all, and that includes serious cases of Covid. That is Truth. Sorry if it hits a nerve.

Not reading what people are saying and commenting on it incorrectly is also dumb and i also do not believe you are dumb

Just using them as an example of lockdown measures that were enforced, and seemingly curbed their count.

Could look at Australia as well. When they shut down they shut down HARD. 10 cases? Lockdown. People follow the rules, life goes back to normal.

I have 2 RCMP buddies and a Firefighter buddy. In the lower mainland, the RCMP literally have dozens of houses on a permanent watch because of how many times they busted the owners/renters for having WAY too many people, and my Firefighter buddy have people constantly lying to him about symptoms when he is the first responder while they wait for an ambulance. I know people(cut ties with most) who would constantly sneak over to friends houses, seeing dozens of different people a month. It is not an excuse, it is the reality.

If you can't see the 100 problems with what you are suggesting. You keep powering through. Maybe you can catch up with Sutter and see how he feels about covid.

I do believe the weather plays a factor. Also, they don’t share a border. Same goes for NZ.

It was a question. Saying that the things we’ve done in Canada have done nothing to stop the spread is stupid, when all you have to do is look down to see what things were like for our neighbors.

Have they (our policies) stoped the spread? Absolutely not, but 1000 cases per day at our peak is a far cry from 20k cases per day. But maybe we’ll get there yet...

New Zealand and Australia were lucky in a sense, when boat(rare for passenger boats) and plane are the only ways in/out, it is easy to keep track and enforce it all.

I just hope I can go up to Golden and see my sister this summer.

Mexico and central america have pretty nice weather...

UK is an island nation...

i'm not sure that those are actual mitigating factors though.

also, as an aside, NZ and Australia just announced opening up travel between countries the other day...

Then why were Canada’s numbers almost non existent in the summer? The fact NZ is an island is 100% a factor. We can’t close our border completely. We simply are reliant on the US for many things
