Ryan Wilson: Three way with Philly?

The goal differential you cite is mostly due to the 9-0 and 8-3 butt-kickings the Rangers put on the Flyers before Philly won the last meeting between them, 2-1. The Flyers managing a pair of 6-1 losses to the Sabres this season is the rest of it.

As for Laughton, I think he will be re-signed by the Flyers after the Expansion Draft and before the start of free agency.

what would be the cost of acquiring him though? An asset? Matheson (ok, just kidding). This is truly a rental and i think he returns to the flyers next year.

The rental ask appears to be a 1st round pick -- multiple teams interested -- and I think the preference is for a 2022 first-rounder.

Very happy to let some other team pay that for Laughton and just roll with what we have to a 1st round exit. Any team paying a 1st for rental Laughton is out of their minds.

Wouldn’t be overly surprised to see teams being stupid since Tampa’s stupid Coleman and Goodrow trades “worked”.

Laughton was the Flyers' leading goal-scorer in the playoffs last season, plays near the top of the PK rotation, never quits on plays, vocal in the room and on the bench, produces a pretty decent amount of offense relative to his typical bottom six role (although he's been elevated a fair amount by Vigneault), can play LW or C and is in his prime at age 26.

There are multiple interested teams -- including the Flyers wanting to re-sign him and Laughton saying the other day that, given the personal choice, he wants to stay here -- so the rental asking price would be greatly inflated. Think Kris Versteeg ca. 2011 when the Leafs made a 1st round ask for him, and Philadelphia had to make it a 2011 first and third to get it done because they had competition. Versteeg was not worth a 1st much less a 1st + 3rd.

Flyers AGM Brent Flahr is not particularly high on this year's Draft, from all appearances. When Brian Smith and I interviewed him recently, he said this year's Draft isn't great at the top end compared to many other drafts and it's also not great depth wise.

From that, and it's just my speculation, I'd be inclined to think that the Flyers are among the teams who'd prefer 2022 assets to 2021.

Definitely not at the supposed asking price. Might as well actually get Forsberg if you’re giving up a 1st.

As a Flyer fan I'd rather not trade Laughton if he's somehow going to end up on the Penguins. I think he comes back to the Flyers after the ED also but you never know, he may actually like winning and decide he wants to stay in Pittsburgh.

Not for the pens. A serious contender like Colorado who should load up for a run should be willing to part with a 1st
