Rick Sadowski: Grubauer could make more Avalanche history

Funny how these things happen in contract years. I'd be lying though if I said I wasn't enjoying how wrong everyone was when they said that goaltending was the Avs' Achille's heel. I just hope Grubi doesn't play his way into a contract too rich for Joe and the team this summer. Then again, if there's a cup involved, maybe I do.

Before this season began, Joe was probably thinking 4 year deal at 4.5 - 5M per. The way Grubi as been playing I think 6M per year is the starting point...this all with Landy, Makar, Saad, Belly and Calvert to resign, (if he stays healthy). My gut tells me this is Comphers last season with us, all that money gonna have to come from somewhere and he's going to be a cap casualty at 3.5M per season

Unless they are planning on resigning for very generous "hometown" discounts, walking away from JTC and Calvert wouldn't be the worst scenario. They can be replaced.
