Riikola didn't even practice today, I wonder if he is on his way out? That would help clear space. Now we just find a team to be the middleman in a Laughton trade with Philly.

I posted this thought on Ek's rumor page. If Palmieri return is anywhere near what Ek is saying what could the Pens get for Malkin RIGHT NOW. They have proved that they can play without him and the return for him now could not only help right now but in the future with a Number one pick from a bad team. Makes you go Hmmmmm

Taxi squad gets payed the AHL rate but it’s the full AHL rate and not the prorated AHL rate of being actually assigned to the AHL.

So it still has financial implications for the guys already making the least amount of money. Kinda scuzzy. Though I probably shouldn't feel too bad for them

This might be a dumb question...

Do you have to take a player off LTIR as soon as the doctors deem they are good to go?

For example, let's say the doctors give Tanev the green light 4 days before playoffs begin... could we choose to keep him on LTIR until the playoffs?

I'm just wondering about how useful the extra LTIR cap space really is. Like if we went and got Getzlaf @ 50% retention...(just an example)... do we need to be 100% sure the player will be out until the playoffs?

By the rules, yes they should be activated.

Does it get enforced? Nope. Kucherov started skating a month ago and won't be back until the playoffs because Tampa would be over the cap. I'd suspect the Pens have lengthened Friedman's time on IR since he wouldn't play anyways and they need a spot for a spare forward.

So if the Pens felt a guy was close enough to missing the rest of the regular season and wanted to use that space, they could.

Yes. Once a player is cleared they must be activated.

Kucherov example is poor. Returning to skating after surgery and being cleared to play are infinitely different things.

Who decides though? Team doctors? Independent party? Seems real easy to take advantage of.

Team doctors to my knowledge but general timeframes for injuries are pretty well known. Obviously teams have a little wiggle room.

He plays for the penguins so if he comes back in a timely manner the clock is already ticking on when he misses time for a new injury.

He's week to week and not even skating yet, so who knows when he will be back.

I can't fully remember the Patty Kane situation but didn't he literally come back Game 1 of the playoffs? Seems like that one was fishy.

Why was gaudreau put on the taxi squad yet jankowski is still playing? There are games that he and i have the same CF%. I would rather see gaudreau as 3rd line and angello as 4th line than see jankowski at all.

Look for kucherov to be ready for tampa game 1. That $9.5M on LTIR enabled tampa to get compliant. Per capfriendly:
Tampa
PROJECTED CAP HIT Tooltip : $98,550,084
PROJECTED LTIR USED Tooltip : $17,050,084
PROJECTED CAP SPACE Tooltip : $0

Tampa's LTIR: $17,712,500

He broke his collarbone. He came back at a standard return time for the injury. Chicago was just lucky enough to be able to take advantage of stupid cap rules.
