Hopefully the league does not take political sides and lose half their fan base like other leagues have done. Wonder where the money comes from when take such stands????Something to think about.

When I saw Vasy not in net and on a back to back I chalked this up as a loss. The Lightning have not been playing well and Vasy has kept them winning. People underestimate how good and important he is to the Lightning.

Good game, hopefully this game gets the Lightning's head out of there asses and they start playing complete games and good hockey.

I read this is the first win for Detroit in Tampa since 2011... that is a crazy stat considering we have been in the same division for a few years now.

Well if you ignore the playoffs it’s true.

It’s a long season, and this one is even longer. Every team has mental breakdowns, it’s just reality. I think it was 2002 when Detroit qualified for the playoffs by February, and then went off the rails for a while. There’s just not a whole lot to play for, especially if there’s a bubble again, if you’re locked in. This loss will irritate the room, for sure. Just a brutal time in the condensed schedule for everyone right now

Interesting “potential” trade. Palmieri is being held out of tonight’s game by NJ. If he’s dealt it should get the waterworks going:

Still a crazy stat even for regular season as much as the these two teams play each other. Greiss put up a .944 over both games, what would it take to get him with money retained as Tampa's backup for the playoffs?

EDIT. realized he has two years left... don't see any trade happening there

Yeah, it was actually back to 2010. Helm was, I think, the only Red Wing in today’s game that played in that one, Osgood had a perfect record against TB when he retired.

Given his history with vasilevskiy do you guys think Stevie Y considers wallstadt with the wings top pick or is selecting a goalie too flukey to take him over a potential top skater prospect.

Who cares! The Lightning are arguably the best team on planet earth and they currently have some key Injuries, This Is a typical blog when there Is nothing to talk about.

Don’t see him taking a goalie with a top 5 pick.

Not in the top 5 but if the wings either play themselves out/get leapfrogged in the lottery out of the top 5 the Swedish goalie is expected to go in that 5-10 range as of right now anyways

I wouldn’t go best on the planet. They will have their hands full after this division, but unless Florida pulls an upset I do think they’ll skate right through. Either Colorado or Vegas could probably give them a serious run, and maybe overtake them.

It’s a Wings blog. We talk about every game the team plays. This just happened to be TB who lost for the second time to Detroit this year in a series I thought they’d sweep.

Anything is possible for the 5-10 range but I’d hope you don’t take a goalie that high. Goaltending tends to be highly volatile and the most important aspect for goaltending success is the team in front of the goalie.

Today was a good game. Pretty solid D, lots of pep in the Wing’s step, and TB really looked off. Last night as well. Teams are draggin’ ass right now. But I remain of the opinion that TB is still a Top 3 team (Avs, Knights, Bolts...malleable list, based on the observations of an armchair Centerman).

This season’s been a gift to the fans at great cost to the teams and league (not a good gift, mind you...). After all’s said & done, the losses will be astronomical. The new broadcast deal w/ESPN is embarrassing for cash-flow, but I believe (like you said, J), it’s leading to streaming services and gunning for DTVs Center Ice. The pawn in the game is the fan base. This is truly scary.

I’m NOT into politics in entertainment...we’ve been lucky in that regard. We watch sports as a mental break. But sooner or later, something will happen like it has in other sports. I just don’t like anyone using the bully pulpit. Hoping hockey stays out of the morass that is politics.

His name’s been out there for a while. Not surprised.

I don’t think many trades of big names will happen. If we see something, it’d be more like a 3-way trade where a team w/lots of cap-space takes a crappy contract and some high-round draft spots or a prime prospect. Detroit could make out well is this regard, believe the free cap space after the season is $33m but I could be wrong. Regardless, could stock up on 1st & high 2nds to take another Staal...

Flatulence! Yup, I said it. Sorry, I forgot about your Pulitzer Prize-winning expose’ on brain-damage. Please accept my apologies, your Hind-ass.

Lemme ask you; do you honestly think if you never posted again..... Nah, you’re not worth it. (frank) off.

I agree with you, this theory only comes from the fact that if Stevie is to take a chance on a goalie in the first two rounds this is the year to do so considering that whoever he does select won’t be NHL ready until around the time that the wings are looking to be competitive anyways.

He may take the chance that Cossa is available in the 2nd but I’m just saying given his history I wouldn’t be surprised to hear the Swedish netminders name called. Stevie knows how important good goaltending is to have a winning team and he doesn’t seem like the type that wants to address a long term solution to the position through trade or free agency.

I’d say throw caution to the wind, if we have a few picks gained as the salary dump at this TDL. What’ve we got to lose?

The only thing I’d ask is How do we fill the gaping hole in net if we don’t get a G in the draft? I know we have a metric ship-ton of holes, so trying to fill them via draft is a good way to do what needs to be done, why take a G in the Top 10 is a valid question.

Petrezulli is looking to be a stud, so getting a good G via normal drafting is possible, to support your point Feds. I’m just throwing it out there for discussion.
