They should watch game tape from Habs-Oilers games this season. Habs aren’t going to win the Cup or anything but they have stifled McDavid and Draisaitl pretty thoroughly so far.

So out of the 122 goals the Oilers have scored so far this season a combined 40 come from guess who McDavid and Draisatl. 33% of their total offensive output. Its safe to say if one of those guys gets injured the Oilers are done like easter dinner.

Hanifin/tanev have been by far our best D this year and I think we should be rewarding them by making them the 1st pair the rest of the way.

While Andersson I thought started the year better than what the stats suggest his mistakes are starting to become more noticeable. Statistically speaking he has been worse than Gio but watching the game I think he’s just trying to do too much due to the combination of him not only being in an elevated role but also trying to compensate for the massive step back Gio has taken.

While sutter’s latest lineup decisions suggest this will never happen but I think Ras/Gio should be split up, pairing Ras with Vali and Gio with a younger player like Kylington. I know the last month of a season in which we are still fighting (but unlikely) to make the playoffs isn’t the time to experiment with giving inexperienced players meaningful minutes but right now our bottom four isn’t panning out so if it doesn’t work it’s not like we will be in a worse position than what we are now.

This team is NOT going on a run. They can't even sting together a pair of wins, let alone enough to get back in the thick of things.

The glass isn't half empty. The glass is broken.

This core doesn't have the will to compete for a full 60 minutes on any given night, and for those rare occasions when they did (ie shutout of Toronto over a month ago), they can't sustain it in th enext game.

The core needs to go. That includes: Giordano, Backlund, Monahan, Gaudreau.

Agree with you 100%, I’m not sure what value Monohan has, the only reason why he scores goal is because of Gaudreau. For playoff chances the last I heard is the Flames would have to win 15 out 19 which is a .789 winning average. I have a better chance on winning the 50-50. On another note with Treliving I don’t think he should be fired after hiring Sutter, he just needs to trade the useless plugs and bring up some of the young guys that are hungry and Sutter can make them play his way.

Hey Bro !
Yeah I think Pelletier & Zary are going to be part of a youth movement next year & we already have a young backend with Hanifin, Andersen & Valamaki. I think Gio will be moved or sacrificed to Seattle & Tre will shop a veteran Dman to go with Tanev as the experienced back end after the expansion draft & probably free agency.

Sutter likes his centres, so expect Backlund & Monahan to stick around despite the mob wanting blood. Gaudreau will likely be moved & we'll see a forward coming back that will slot on the top 2 lines & for sure a top 6 RW will be signed or acquired.
Hope we continue to lose now so we start getting some competition for some of our UFA's & we become the obvious few sellers.

Personally I would be curious about doing a backlund for Domi swap 1 for 1 if torts is still in Columbus after this year. I think Domi’s upside and rental value is higher than what Back’s value is this summer given his contract and Columbus is probably one of the few teams that would pay up the most for a player like backs.

I don’t know about anyone else here but I think my biggest fear with firing Tre is that I can’t think of anybody better available to take over the position. Critics can say what they want but this team is miles better than when he took over and it’s not just because we got lucky getting Gaudreau in the 4th round.

Yeah if you fire Tre it’s taking a big step back and that would mean the sign of another rebuild. Hopefully Sutter has some input of what players he wants.

Going good, been way to busy working but could be worse. I think Sutter is going to have a huge role in the player evaluation going on. This isnt a tear down rebuild, its a step back, get some youth & get Sutters systems established going forward.
Clyde & reincarnation of Whipper is kinda of a mystery, there was some conspiracy theories floating out there but cant believe any reports these days

G38 Calgary Flames vs Edmonton Oilers: Time to wake up

I suggest the team can't "wake up".

Instead I suggest it is time for a "shake up".

Either the problematic pair of players or the malcontents need to be traded. The team will not find success until this divide is resolved.

To think two years ago the Flames finished first in the West, I’m not sure if it was a fluke or players having career years. I still remember game 2 against the Avs when Monohan scored late in the 3rd and they crumbled after. I still think if they won game 2 that series would be theirs

We can hope!

(frank)ing disaster this team is.

I want Sutter to play Richie-Rhino-Buddy and Lucic-Bennet-Gawdon for the rest of the season. Set up a gofundme page and give these guys extra $$$ for broken noses. At least it would be worth watching. Let the top line watch from the bleachers for a couple games.

Speaking of intimidation.....do we have one D in the system that can throw a punch? Aside from old man Gio?

Ok Now people we should not even be talking about playoffs... if we are Flames fans we should be hoping for high draft pick which will be more help for the Flames than to finish just outside the playoffs.... showcase all players and trade and time to start fresh next season with new faces and youth.

Marky sucks ... this is not an elite goalie or our D is really letting him down. I don't know which one is true.

Trade Rittich for a good draft pick or a good prospect

Trade Gaudreau to Philly as he really doesn't fit Sutter hockey.

Keep Lindholm, Tkachuk, Mangiapine, Dube, Vali, Anderson, Hanifin and Tanev.... sell everyone else at a good price.

You realize the minute they are out of the race they will start winning.

I agree with you. I hope they can do a proper retool. But I worry that they will just end up doing a half-assed retool and we will be stuck being a mediocre team for the next 7 years.

Yeah, I totally agree with you Duran... this team is the Flames and now they'll start wining and end up just outside the Playoffs and with a crappy draft pick... the only way I will be ok with this is if they bring up the youth and let them play and then they win... that way at least we know what we have in the youth... if our current roster starts to win ...ill be mad

I am also hoping for a full retool. and not a half retool as they have been doing.. I think the core has to be involved in the retool now. That is very obvious now.
