Such an out of the box idea. I’ve never seen the idea before.

A little over a month ago I placed a bet for division winner: Pens at +1000 and Caps at +800. It's looking pretty good right now.

Side note, but RW has been more positive in his blogs as of late.

Matheson won’t catch a break ever. 3 points the last 2 games and RW still will spend 10 lines about his deficiencies and 2 about whatever. Not one mention about how pretty much our whole D corps started slow this year (Pettersson, Letang, Marino etc)

He's just pointing out the obvious and I thought he actually did praise MM a little for what he did, but the fact remains that these moments of MM flexing his offensive abilities are not frequent enough to balance out his defensive deficiencies.

EDIT: Yeah, the whole d-core started out slow, but they're all making progress and MM isn't.

Yeah why would you want to put MM in the best position to have a positive impact on the team?

First half/2periods of that game was a thing of beauty. Nice to see players supporting each other and a great forecheck. Jank with dry hair at the end of the game was good to see. Freddie stole his job.

Out of the box, yes, something that actually has a snowballs chance in hell of happening, no.

My issue with ERod is sustainability and I even have that concern with McCann as well, but not to the degree of ERod. For all the poop I've given ERod he has performed well, but he's going to regress. To what degree I have no idea, but I just don't see it being anywhere near what he's doing now.

I posted the ERod one because it really surprised me. I don't think he's a top 6 option either, but I don't think he's the useless player some have made him out to be. At best 12 but I'd rather see him as a bench option that comes in on that bottom 6 scoring line when injuries hit.

A lot of the depth guys have really stepped up for this team.

Tanev swooping in with the puck with speed happens every time he gets the puck with room to skate. Difference here is it resulted in a goal and you looked up from your twitter account. I’m not opposed to Matheson playing wing though I Ruhwedel Ceci would’ve a better pair than poj and Ceci at the moment

This places further emphasis on Winnipeg's desire to get a defenceman before the trade deadline. Also creates a little cap space, which will help.

Riikola seems like a good trading piece here, but does WPG realistically have a piece in a Riikola trade that makes sense?

yes, WPG seems like a logical trading partner at this point. I could see some combination of Pettersson or Riikola for Copp or Lowry.

The case to keep Pettersson is getting a little stronger though. He and Marino are gelling well.

I don't see WPG moving either Copp or Lowry. If they had a long-term hole to fill on D then I could see a bigger trade there. They just don't have much in the way of rentals.

In my opinion I dont think Matheson would be that good of a forward.

Yes, he can skate, and at times create some highlight reel goals. But his hands would be really underwhelming as a forward. And he might help with zone entries but he sure as hell won't be forechecking or winning puck battles. Plus if the hockey IQ is in question at defense, I can't imagine what an entirely new position would look like.

I don't see them making that move. Copp is having a really good season and Lowry's dad is literally a coach there. That family is Winnipeg royalty lol

For all the crap talk on Matheson the guy is a positive possession player. Considering how bad this season started, that is impressive.

I suppose. And the Jet's generally make deadline deals in general.

FWIW - I think Copp is a better player but Lowry would be Hextall/Burke's target. #gritboner

Also, the Kings were one of the teams supposedly interested in Matheson so hopefully they were watching last night

I disagree with the hands part. Honestly it’s easier to find ways to be effective on forward not having the greatest hands than it is on Defense. Not comparing my playing time to the nhl but I moved back and forth throughout and my hands, especially skating the puck improved from playing Defense.

I honestly don't want to sacrifice defensive depth, but we know Hex wants to add picks. If they don't plan on moving Petts or MM, then with POJ standing by they may be able to squeeze a decent pick out of WPG for Riikola if WPG gets desperate.
