This Oilers team Is not good enough to win the 2021 Kung Flu Asterisk Trophy. |

I'll give you some of my Oilers thoughts:
It may be time to call up either Benson or Marody
If not, if they could somehow get Hall, I think it'd be worth it.
Skinner is having a great season in the AHL. That along with experience at the NHL lever could mean he's potentially ready next, but definitely ready in 2022-23.
Oilers were linked to Elvis Merzlikins, but he's improved his save percentage, so I dunno if Columbus is willing to trade him.
Nuge has been pretty awful this season. Love the guy, but his 5x5 is just (frank)ing trash. He either needs to play on the DRY line or figure his poop out, because there's no way I'd offer him 6 million.
Puljujarvi good.
They can't be starting Draisaitl with McDavid anymore. Teams can prepare for that and stifle their offense.
Koskinen needs to stop allowing goals on the first shot. It wasn't his fault last night, but it's far to often he allows one right away, breaking the team's back.
McDavid is the best hockey player to ever live. |

While the Oilers are likely to make the playoffs it's still early to be penciling it in. If they do make it I don't care who they play as long as they make the second round minimum. That's the bar of success for this team no matter what the regular season match ups say.
Good write up.
I think Nuge is gonzo. His ask will be too high even for a generous Holland. Hopefully we can get something for him but I highly doubt that happens. |

Why would we? Happens to him every single game. Kotkinamelaminioe should be happy McDavid blessed him with his touch. |

No, the Oilers are not a contender this year. Things could change with the trade deadline and a (whole) lot better play. One game above 500 against teams not from Ottawa is not an impressive record. Fun to watch regular season hig scoring games, but the playoffs are a different beast. Much less room. Whoever they face will know exactly what to expect and won't have to worry so much about taking penalties.
I'm interested to see what Holland does this summer. Last year he prioritized goaltending and got lucky that Smith has lasted this long. Neither is a solution, and the cost to upgrade could be high. Or go for Reimer or Bernier. Yuck. Last summer's prized UFA signings were Kahun and Turris, neither which have played that well. What will $25m buy for so many positions needing players. |

Do not mention Hyman's name in association with your putrid franchise. Leafs can and will re-sign him. |

Have just been watching highlihts. Nurse looks good! Has he found his defensive game? |

Oil/Habs playoff would be fun to watch. Playoffs are a different beast to be sure. Consistent refs would help but everyone knows they go into playoff mode. |

This Tweet was too funny not to share:
BREAKING: The NHL has suspended Montreal Canadiens' Jesperi Kotkaniemi 10 games for allowing his face to get in the way of Connor McDavid's elbow. |

He’s not wrong though. You take away the Ottawa series, and Edmonton looks average. Now what that actually means is open to interpretation, but it should be noted. |

You take away any team's best series and they'll suffer. They've done well against Winnipeg. Other than the three game series, have done well against Toronto as well.
Montreal they've only played four games, two of which were at the start of the season.
Calgary and Vancouver they've beat as well. |

best first round matchup is the Jets. Every Oilers Stanley Cup run went through Winnipeg, may as well get the good luck charm in the first round. Habs can 'upset' the Leafs and then be the second round matchup. |

Their best series is also against the one team in the North that they’ll certainly not face in the playoffs. So yeah, putting it aside also helps paint a better picture of how they’ll fare against the teams they WILL meet in the playoffs. And that picture (while not dismal) is nowhere near as impressive as their record as whole suggests. |

Ottawa's record removed from Edmonton is also nearly .500. It's just so hard to quantify who is good against who in the North because they just play so often. In reality, Edmonton hasn't really looked that poor except for the 3-6 start and the three game series against Toronto.
Like I said, Montreal is an incredibly small sample size. They've just played so far a part and there are different factors that went into the previous meeting.
They've looked good against Winnipeg in every game that they played. I'd prefer them in the playoffs.
The Leafs may be the hardest matchup for Edmonton as we've had a large sample size, but except for those three games, they've looked extremely close and it should probably be 5-4 Leafs.
You look at the Leafs as the division leader, but firstly, way too many games are won in OT, and secondly, they've kinda struggled against Winnipeg and don't look great against Montreal.
Quite honestly, Edmonton beats the poop out of the weaker teams and keeps it close. The others, mainly Toronto, plays way down to the weaker teams.
It's a poop shoot.

The Leafs had a 7 or 8 game stretch where everything went to poop at once, particularly their horrible starting goalie. Other than that they have definitely been the best team in the North.
Sadly, playoffs are a whole different game. |

I fully expect Montreal to bounce the Leafs in round 1.
Not trying to mean. It would just be SO Leafs. |

Benson and marody are not available. They are developing chemistry in bako for a run of their own. If injuries occur and one of them are NEEDED, they need a quarantine, even 7 days is harsh. They would be passed on.
Hall is not an option. The Oil would need to basically give up one of Neal, RNH, and Klefbom just to make space... then add assets for Hall. Then they would have to erase history... not happening.
Skinner is doing meh/ok in bako, 91.2% ain't special.
Mike Smith is 91.9 rn, and mikko is 90.2, and Skinner is 86.8 at the NHL level... Smith and koski are holding their own even if not spectacular. Better than calling koski vezina worthy like someone did 2 years ago. None are great but they are tolerable.
You are still as dumb as ever and should consume copious amounts of bleach and tide pods and chase it down with corona's. |
