Good morning. Wonder how the locker room feels with Ghost being waived? Will that be the built in excuse for tonight's game? The they we were not focused angle.
Of course the cap hit is the biggest obstacle. He isnt worth 4.5 for the next 2 years. If he was making half that he probably wouldn't even be waived. I suggested a few days ago they waive him. Hopefully Jake is next. |

Has Ghost not been claimed, or is it not announced until noon?

Please... Please... PLEASE NO MORE GUS!
At this point, I'd rather watch Bill lace up his old skates and play beside Morin.

I would be very disappointed if waiving Ghost was only to send a message to the locker room. I mean if you really wanted to send a message, pick someone who is considered a leader, like Jake V. The fact that its Ghost to me tells me there is something more going on here, either its a specific discipline to Ghost or to have cap space flexibility in order to make significant trades at the deadline. |

Still hoping he gets claimed and think for the Flyers it would help them out greatly in the future.
Ghost -> Claimed...4.5m off the cap for 2 years
JvR -> the possibility getting selected for the expansion draft is good...7m off the cap for 2 years
The Flyers don't have any RFA's that deserve any substantial raise so the cap space they have is plenty to deal internally. You can do a lot with 11.5m for the next 2 years, whether it is 1 or 2 UFAs or room to make trades. |

Better scenario is Jake getting claimed in the ED. |

I think he is exposed too, but I see Francis taking JvR, especially with his play this year and less term. |

I know most people here hate Ghost but this waiving him just doesn't sit right with me.
Regardless of the real reason, the optics look like he is a scapegoat and the team is using him as punishment when there are plenty of other players who are way more culpable. Voracek being #1 in my eyes.
I understand its a business. |

If it is between those 2 yes I agree 100%. That is why the GM needs to add something to get them to take Jake |

Ghost is the first to be waived and now let's hope Jake is next. Of course, we know that no one will take his salary, but good way to get everyone's attention. I've wanted both of these players traded for 2 years now.....soft soft soft. |

Well if the coach is going to consistently have a short leash with him, continue to yo yo him in and out of the lineup, then the best choice is to move along. Clearly they have tried to move him to know avail. So know see if a team bites.
I don't see it as a scapegoat move at all. He doesn't fit into their future plans imo. For whatever reason he is not all that liked by the coaches is how I see it. |

I worry about this move if it was to send a message, especially if he’s claimed. Sort sighted move imo. This feels like a move that could backfire tremendously. |

Backfire tremendously? If anything it would be beneficial to get his cap off the books. Short sighted is looking at this season and trying to salvage it. Obviously would love for them to make the playoffs but this team needs reevaluated this off-season and this is step one. |

Just curious, does anybody here know how waiver claims work? Is it a first dibs situation or does each team get a opportunity to make a claim ordered by the standings?

I could not agree more, MB. I know hockey is a business, yadda yadda...but players have lives off the ice, and to make Ghost or any other player a sacrificial lamb for the purpose of sending a “message from the general manager to the locker room” seems like a dumb way to go about it. It could totally backfire, as we’ve all read and heard accounts from players on how tight a group they have. |

I forget just how different hb'ers are from users on other sites. I'm so used to seeing people poop all over Ghost here, but I ventured over to BSH and HFBoards for the first time in a long time yesterday and most people were so upset at Fletch that they were basically burning jerseys. |

i just hope they're not really interested in bernier. can't imagine he looks much better with the breakdowns on defense that this team is regularly having. get help on defense, don't get another goalie. |

The other night during the game Jonesy said the players aren’t listening to the coaches. If this holds any weight, this move could make the players tune them out even more. As many have pointed out (including Bill), the Flyers could have sent Gus down. Who knows maybe the move wakes everybody the (frank) up. But I still worry |
