Penguins 6-2 against the Islanders this year and somehow the Islanders have the tie-breaker

Only in the NHL

The Pens are definitely tougher to play against. Not the typical high end skill team of the past but they make you work for everything. Impressed with them lately

Trotz has lost the room. Time to fire him. He needs a fresh start somewhere like Detroit.

I'm kind of shocked Philly couldn't find a trade partner for Ghost. Detroit should put a claim on him.

Gotta trade the 19 LD we have first. But I’m down with Ghost.

Loser point is fine it just shouldn’t be 50% of the available points. 3-2-1 system is the way to go.

I know a lot of people on here don't like him but I'd be all over getting him if we could. I'd be surprised if he didn't get picked up, but then again obviously no one was offering them anything in a trade so maybe not.

He was always analytically sound until last season and has completely plummeted this season. I wouldn’t mind getting him if the plan was to move both Matheson and Pettersson, but I feel like his play style wouldn’t mesh with Marino’s super well and I’m not interested in a $4.5 million defenseman for the bottom pairing. We really need to stop doing that.

I figured Detroit would be selling soon anyways so why not claim him. If he bounces back he could be traded for assets next season.

Honestly I’d keep him as a stop gap LD to let the young guys develop.

Upgrading C is going to be a tough one IMO and with so many teams still in the hunt it's hard to see who will sell. I think Soderberg would be a good target if CHI is further out of the race by the deadline. CBJ could be a team to watch as well. They might turn into sellers if they're too far out and Foligno could be an option there.

Out of the teams clearly out at this point there really isn't a bevy of upgrades at C. Obviously there's the Getzlaf dream, but I find that very unlikely. I read recently that he hasn't shown any desire to go play for contender.

But yeah, I think the biggest hurdle is going to be which teams believe they're out of the running with how close things are in all these divisions.

Lol I've been telling you that for about 8 months. Agree on the center market being thin though.

He might ask for one, but I also wonder what the Pens are willing to offer. Also, if he does ask for one it's not an automatic he comes here. You can bet the Isles would be very aggressive with Lee out.
- Rinosaur

Getzlaf would also have control of where he went, so not a straight bidding war.

I think you gotta go with whatever we can get the easiest between a LW/RW and C. Because for me it doesn't matter where McCann plays.
- 668710

I can agree with that. Technically they could use a guy at any of the 3 forward positions. And they don't have much to trade. Best fit forward works for me.

Funny I kept hearing analysts talk about what a great season he was having.

Where are all the people who said Philly's defense wouldn't miss Niskanen?

I'm pretty sure Murray said the only way he trades Getzlaf is if Getz came to his office and told him he wanted to traded to this team to play for a cup. Outside of that he isn't even listening to offers.

Philly is top half of the league defensively though.

Can’t blame the D for Hart being the worst goalie in the league this season.
