the officials beautifully gift wrapped and handed that game to the Flames (one of the most one-sided games i've ever seen called).....and they still lost, to OTTAWA.

That was a hard one to watch. Out of a possible 10 points against Ottawa, I was hoping for at least 8-9 but realistically no less than 7.

The product they have put on the ice this season is unacceptable, period. I think the thing that frustrated me was the comments after the game by some of the players that "Ottawa worked hard". Yeah no kidding they work hard, take a lesson from them and match that work ethic.

I by no means think Sutter will magically turn this around, they are a very flawed roster. However, I do know he will at least hold them accountable for their lack of effort.

End Rant.

I don't have a lot of natural interest in the Flames but it's going to be really interesting to see what Sutter does with them. They still seem to have a bunch of talent and Sutter has been so successful everywhere he's been...

Agree with all of this.
Darryl's 1st 10 games behind the bench include: 2 Habs, 2 Oil, 2 Leafs, 2 Jets, 2 Sens. March is make or break if not already broke.
Trade deadline is April 12th and I expect us to be sellers.

Only way I see the Flames making the playoffs is ATLEAST winning 6 of 8 next games, but that won’t happen, I have a better chance of seeing a flying pig.

I've read that the Flames won't make any other coaching changes after Sutter takes over as head coach, meaning that Ryan Huska, Ray Edwards, and Martin Gelinas will all be safe from the axe. Why. Why should they be spared when they've been just as responsible as Ward for the coaching inadequacies of this team.

I would love to see Sutter bring in Robin Regehr to help the team work on the PK. (No idea if he'd be interested or available to do that.) He was 10 times the defenceman and leader that Gio is. Sure, not nearly as many points, but worlds better defensively and tougher to play against. This team needs that, badly.

Sutter is famed for being a hardass coach. If he can't get through to this core, then it's time to trade them off for working pieces.

I agree with most of the points in the OP, except that Sam Bennett was rather pedestrian out there, much like the rest of the group.
Brett Richie and Derek Ryan were the only ones to stand out, though Tkachuk had an OK game.

Let’s face it Monohan is a wussy for someone his size play like it, maybe he should’ve taken up figure skating because he just floats around the ice. Gaudreau is small and not built for playoff hockey, which the Flames won’t have to worry about this year. I really hope Darryl Sutter brings out the whip on this team, bunch of (frank)ing overpaid pussies. Hell why not bench them all and promote the farm team to play atleast they would play hard!!

Tough crowd in here. I hope the oil thread doesn't read the same tonight after our Ottawa game.

The Oilers will probably beat the Senators by over 5 goals.

I sadly am a Flames supporter and do truly believe this core should do better BUT maybe it isn't in the cards. Now the point I would just send em all off and hope for the best sign Matty long term, you already have a goalie there is room to tank it if you can score 3-4 firsts or 2 and 3 prospects I would go for it right now.

Unless sutter can actually get everyone into game shape don't half ass it and pick over 5th in the draft that isn't worth it for this squad.

It pains me to say this but it doesn't look good at all.

I expect that one of the conditions for Sutter coming in IS that his recommendations about players to management be taken seriously. Sutter is to old to wussyfoot around. He also knows what it takes to win so I expect Tre will help him build a team that contends.

I hope to god we are sellers come TDL. For too many years this core group has underperformed when it matters the most.

I think back to that first round against Colorado and the Flames got their asses handed to them, even though they were close to going 2-0 in the series. But seriously changes should’ve been made that offseason and then last year in game 6 against Dallas having a 3-0 lead and collapsing. I was away from the tv for 5 (frank)ing minutes and Dallas was up 4-3. Monohan and Gaudreau need to (frank)ing go now.

Yes, get rid of one of the guys that consistently contributes to the limited offense this team gets. You probably think Bennett is a really good player that just isn’t getting opportunities to show what he can really be.

Agree on Monahan.

I can see some sort of retooling, definitely not a rebuild. Sutter wouldn’t of come on board for a rebuild.

Nope Bennett is a bust and where was JG last year. He’s put up points this year but he’s gone after his contract, trade him while you can. The Flames have already flamed out, (frank) BT should’ve been fired years ago. He can go manage a Boston Pizza.

How has Tkachuk done in the playoffs? Whine about Gaudreau all you want, but if Tkachuk had shown up for more than a game in each series, the results would've been a lot different.

Tkachuk'd playoff strategy of acting like a lunatic in game one, then playing scared the rest of the way hasn't worked out too well.

Tkachuk was producing before he got his head knocked around last season, no?

I’m not sure I buy that he’ll be gone after his contract is over. If it’s perfectly clear by next season he’d like to move on, then absolutely get rid of him but if the team is competitive and it’s a little muddy, keep him and see what happens. It’d suck to lose him for nothing but he brings an entirely different element than everyone else on the team that won’t easily be replaced without taking several steps back.

He's a jersey guy (Philly suburb), he's engaged to a Philly nurse.... What would you do if you were him sign with one of the many teams within a couple hours of home or have a cross continent relationship?
Its a no brainer if you can manage the asset you trade him at 1st opportunity!!!!!!

Exactly trade him when he’s still on a cap friendly contract and get something in return.
