I have come to terms with chalking this season up as kind of "lost". I have lowered my expectations - I don't think the Pens can compete with the likes of Knights, or Lightning, or Bruins on a consistent basis. Even if they will sneak into the playoffs, I don't think they will be able to win a single series against any team. Not with that Defense and not with those special teams. It also looks to me that Sid and Geno can't take over games and carry the Pens on their back any longer. Which sucks, but just the reality of things.
The roster has so many holes in it that it's beyond "Swiss Cheese" consistency. No real identity to the team either - they can have a great game right away followed by a horrible one. Like multiple personality disorder.

Kind of funny that a couple days ago was the 30 year anniversary of the Pitt-Hartford trade. Look at the types of players pitt sent out in Cullen, zalapski, Parker for Francis, Ulf, Jennings. Now the 91 pens were a bit better than this team but the types of players we have too many of and the type we lack are pretty much the exact same. |

That was an awesome trade that definitely put that Pens team over the top! Ah, the days of the good ole hockey trade. Those types of trades are very few and far between these days. |

It was but you look at the Cullen and zalapsky type vs Francis and especially ulf. That’s what this team needs especially on D. If we have Letang and matheson we don’t need a more mobile D than that. Letang and matheson both need big strong stay at home D-men to cover their gaffes and clear the crease while they try to retrieve the puck and rush down ice. MM doesn’t need a Marino and petts is just a bland mediocre dman who excels at nothing but getting hit a lot. I think, as rough around the edges as he is as a Dman, a zadorov type could be very useful if he’s coached in how to play and what his main purpose is. |

Anytime you can get a guy with a -100 goal differential at 5v5 you do whatever it takes to get him. |

If we traded for Tatar today you’d just come right back in here and taunt us for expending assets on someone who doesn’t fix our problem. |

Last night's game I think did the best job of exposing one of the Pens' biggest weaknesses and that's defenseman who know how to defend in front of their own net. I think our dmen do a great job in transitional defense and have gotten better at keeping teams to the perimeter.... GOTTEN BETTER, not great at it, but they're getting better.
The last issue is knowing how to defend once players actually get in/around Jarry. I honestly don't know if this is a strategy issue, personnel issue or a mix of both, but I think this is something that needs to be addressed in addition to improving the forward group.

Well it sucks that the blue line is a weakness because we have a billion NHL defensemen at this point and can’t afford to spend assets to bolster a position that’s a depth strength. |

Dumo practicing with Letang, Rodrigues taking shifts with fourth line. Getting Dumo back is a plus. |
