At the end of the day THE only difference between the Hawks and Wings Is that the Wings boat Is taking on a little bit more water. I'm not a Wings fan but let's be realistic about this, If the Red Wings management wasn't trying to rebuild on the fly for 10 plus seasons Detroit wouldn't be In this position. Let's see how the Hawks navigate 3 games against TB and get back to me. Word!

I've said it numerous times. It'll take years for Yzerman to clean up Ken Holland's mess.

Things will get better gergeswilliams. I grew up In Illinois sir and watched the Blackhawks display awful management for two decades and I will say the Wings will be back sooner rather than later. I live In Fargo ND now and I follow the Wild. Stevie Y will get It right.

Yes. I have faith in Yzerman turning this franchise around. It'll just take awhile. I bet you don't miss the Dollar Bill Wirtz years when he blacked out TV home games.

Wirtz was a greedy booze slinging selfish arse bag. Detroit's management Is just fine and I have enormous faith In Yzerman. And this Is Blashills last season as well even though he was thrown under the bus to. I feel bad for Wings fans because all of the Wings POOR decision makers are long gone and the current Red Wing fans are stuck watching this.

Honestly the only thing the bothered me tonight about the Red Wings was that nobody got pissed enough to throw a punch.

Mr. Willems you got It right tonight by bringing up Holland's name. You get It. But I bet by tomorrow morning there will be a dozen meatheads taking shots at Greiss or Gagner.

Nah. Greiss has played very well for the most part. He hasn't had much goal support. Gagner hadn't done much up until the past 3 games. Yzerman signed a bunch of place holders to buy some time for our prospects.

No one here expected this Red Wings team to compete for a playoff spot. But we did think we improved enough to compete most games. And for the most part we have. We can't score goals. Our last 2 wins were the exception to the rule.

I've said enough about Blashill. I'm not going down that road again. My biggest disappointment is with Mantha because he's literally doing nothing. I expected a big season out of him and he's just collecting a paycheck.

Most of the players we have on the team now won't be Red Wings in 3-4 years when Yzerman has HIS team built. Or mostly built. In Tampa Stevie walked into a young Stamkos and Hedman. He doesn't have this luxury in Detroit so the rebuild will take longer.

But he knew what he was walking into. Getting screwed at the draft lottery certainly hasn't helped but it is what it is. Drafting Shane Wright in the 2022 draft would expedite this rebuild big time. But hope is not a plan.

The one Red Wings player who is actually capable of throwing a punch is Givani Smith but he's currently playing in Grand Rapids.

I'm still trying to figure out why Bettman SCREWED Detroit out of Lafreniere.

And of course Yzerman being the class guy that he Is said that there are alot of great players In this draft. It's a myth that nice guys finish last.

Bettman has had a beef with the Red Wings since the 2009 SCF. Ilitch wouldn't shake Bettman's hand after the Pens won game 7.

The Red Wings were extremely banged up after eliminating Chicago in 5 games. Lidstrom, Rafalski, Datsyuk and Hossa were all playing with major injuries. So what did Gary do? He moved the SCF up 1 week. Gotta get Sid his Cup! Games 1 and 2 were played on back to back days at the Joe. Red Wings won both games mainly because Osgood stood on his head.

Pens won both games 3 and 4 in Pittsburgh. Red Wings routed the Pens in game 5. Malkin started a fight after the game was over which according to the rulebook calls for an automatic 1 game suspension.

Malkin didn't get suspended. Pens go on to win game 6. Malkin is their best player. Game 7 was lost because Mike Babcock played it too safe and (frank)ing Max (frank)ing Talbot scored 2 soft goals. One from a Brad Stuart giveaway and the other one because Osgood completely whiffed on a wrist shot which couldn't break tissue paper.

But I'm over that loss. No really. I am. Anyway this is the back story on why Mike Ilitch wouldn't shake Bettman's hand. The Red Wings have dropped in the draft lottery for 4 years in a row now. Coincidence? From 1 to 4? Come on man.

The sad thing is that I was predicting this would happen the previous December. Most Red Wings fans KNEW we'd get screwed in the draft lottery. Even Yzerman said he wasn't surprised.

Talbots first goal was shot in from the other side of center, Stuart thought it was icing.

It’s always risky to read too much into a single game. But I think one of the underrated problems this team has is how few good options they have at center.

IMO there are really only two “real” NHL-quality centers on this team: Larkin and Glendening. The other options are all less than ideal in one way or another:

- Converted winger (Fabbri)
- Former NHL centers who switched to wing long ago and are all probably third line quality at best even as wingers (Namestnikov, Gagner, Helm)
- Replacement-level or worse overall players (Nielsen, Filppula)

That really shaky center depth revealed itself last night with both Larkin (i.e., the only legit top six center) AND Fabbri (not a good center, but at least a decent second liner period) were both out.

That’s how you end up with, for example, Val Freaking Filppula centering Ryan and Mantha as your de facto first line. You gotta save Glendening for the tough defensive minutes, so you’re stuck playing wingers and part timers down the middle for three quarters of the game.

Also, at some point we need to have a difficult conversation about the fact that Filip Hronek just isn't very good. I think he has a lot of good tools but very questionable decision-making ability.

You almost wonder if playing in a low quality Czech league reinforced some bad habits because he has regressed significantly this year.

This seems plausible to me.

I agree that he seems to have regressed quite a bit, although I have a sinking feeling I also probably overrated him in the past.

That is the problem with the Wings right now. There are NO true 1st liners on thier roster. If there were they would have made the "complementary" pieces that are placed on their line appear to be top line also. Sieder will have to be protected in the line-up when he comes over. Please don't throw him to the wolves on the 1st pairing until he is truly ready.
As to your accurate center depth analogy...... this is why I hope Mantha is traded for some much needed center depth. LA has many good C prospects and I would sure like to see Mantha go there in exchange for a couple of them.

I think most of us overrated him because the rest of the D was so bad. But I don’t think there was realistically any reason to see him as more than a 2nd pair guy.
