No question. Solid player. He would help teams including the Flyers. However it seems as though some Flyers fans think he would significantly upgrade the Flyers to true contender status. He wouldn't. Add in the effect on the expansion draft and really it's a no go for me.

There is no way Fletcher would move Sanheim plus for Ekholm.

Due to tight cap constraints, the only way a trade seems possible is if Nash is willing to take on an unfavorable contract. Ekholm is a solid second pair left D, which may interest a number of teams. However, he is not a difference-maker and no one is going to trade a potential all-star for him. A second pairing left D may be worth a couple second round picks. As such, I propose a deal would look something like this:

Nash:
Veteran: unfavorable short term contract (approx. $3.5 million cap hit)
Prospect: Nhl ready prospect - low 2nd/3rd line potential (approx. $1 million cap hit)
2021 - 2nd round pick
2022 - 2nd round pick

Trade Partner:
Ekholm ($3.75 million)
Fringe/Taxi Squad player (approx. $0.8 million)

This would provide Nash with the value of an average prospect and 2 second round picks, which might be a slightly overinflated high price. The value for the trade partner would be Ekholm.

The other players are essentially garbage-in/garbage-out contracts swapped to balance the salaries and contract limits.

Nashville also gets cap room as DeAngelo is signed for $4.8aav the following season then is an RFA decision. Smith is off the books basically the moment he arrives. Everyone else represents an ELC.

(-) Nashville will also need to look inside and determine if Poile is the guy to lead this rebuild. His spotty at best draft record over the last 5 or so seasons, coupled with bad contracts (Turris, Duchene) and trades (did I mention Duchene) would have likely seen anyone else in any other town long since shown the door. So, would a move like this also trigger a front office shakeup? Things to consider as NSH can’t allow the long and winding road down to be even a 1/10 of the grade that it took them to get to contention otherwise, they could find a desolate Smashville sooner rather than later.
