I think its ridiculous to hold onto a player once you know he will not be what you expected. I'm fine with giving him the season to prove himself, but if he doesn't why keep going? - jd250

It's way too early to give up on Patrick with what he has been through. He missed a lot of time. It's been 17 games. Patience is still called for. - MJL
My god he is 22 years old. Most pros aren't even in the NHL at this point.
So when does your patience run out if you are Flyers brass? After this current contract? Would you resign him for another "prove it" one year deal if he would take it? I would cut bait once this contract ends if Patrick's play continues like this. - jd250
Cut bait, with the franking #2 overall, when he has literally zero leverage in negotiations... This is one of the better posts in a while

I personally like Laughton better at wing but he can play center. I'll explain what depth is. If the Flyers have a significant injury to Couturier or Hayes, Laughton might then become a 2nd line center. If Patrick improves and earns the 3rd line center spot, the team is then that much deeper. If we have an excess then there is assets for trades to improve the team elsewhere.
What you don't understand is that it's not about who turns out to be right about Patrick. It's about asset management and risk aversion. Even if he doesn't improve, it is a zero risk move to retaining Patrick. - MJL
I understand what you saying and I don't think its crazy by any means. But if Patrick does not improve then what do you do and how long do you wait?
