Do you want to avoid Eckholm altogether? Or just think that’s an overpayment?

I mean it’s not ideal, but we could get creative with expansion and offer another asset for Seattle to take whoever else similar to Vegas. But as mentioned, not ideal to trade away additional assets for expansion.

Here is how I would put it. Ekholm would absolutely upgrade the Flyers defense. The question is how much and to what level. In my opinion he would not elevate the Flyers to true contender status. Add in the cost of the trade itself combined with how it complicates the expansion draft and the cap in the future. I would pass and continue to draft and develop. The Flyers with patience in adding York and Zemula in the future could have a strong defense for a decade added to what they already have. Don't chase something that you're not ready to catch.

While I agree with drafting, waiting for your window, you also have to ask when will that window open? If we are waiting on York and zamula that still puts us 2 years out, at least. The window will be closing on some of their good O by then. I really would like them to get to the off-season and the make their moves but if Ekholm is the first move and they have a plan beyond that to add a goal scorer let’s say, I am ok spending some assets. Without covid and expansion I would be ok now. These next 2 weeks will tell a great deal, if they play well and maintain their position in the division I would say try and make the best deal. If they fall back to their old ways I would then pause.

With expansion looming, I would only make a deal like that for a true difference maker. Ekholm is not that player. For me, there is no choice but to continue to wait.
