It's not really Schmidt's fault that the team is poop and the players he has to play with are poop.
- manvanfan

That's true and Schmidt has looked better.

Has that sunk in with you yet?
- VanHockeyGuy

No because I still maintain this club isn't this bad regardless of whether they make it or not.

They are 22nd right now and I had them on the bubble at 16-19 or so which is still completely in reach.

If they don';t make it so be it.

I’m no longer a Benning Bro but it’s undeniable he has restocked the prospect cupboards and made some excellent trades during his time here. He’s definitely in the discussion for best GM ever - along with Quinn and Burke.

He's going to be a good one.

Jurmo has 2 goals today. I say sell high. Package him with Virtanen for a top 9 forward.

I think you have to locate the GM first!

Truthfully, he's better staying off the grid and not being available to the media.

Cam Robinson seems to think William Eklund is the prize of the draft or close to it. Thoughts? You follow the prospects.

22nd because they're played 2-9 games more than everyone else Going off points percentage they're 29th.

I think the early season struggle caved them in both physically and mentally, and they shouldn't be as terrible as they seem, but there's no denying right now they're pretty terrible.

From Pronman at the Athletic (take with salt), but his are:

Tier 1: Bubble of NHL All-Star and top of lineup player
1. Luke Hughes, LHD, U.S. NTDP-USHL
2. Matthew Beniers, C, Michigan-Big Ten

Tier 2: Top-line forward, top-pair defenseman or good starting goaltender
3. Owen Power, LHD, Michigan-Big Ten
4. Dylan Guenther, RW, Edmonton-WHL

Tier 3: Bubble of top-line or pairing and second-line or pairing
5. Kent Johnson, C, Michigan-Big Ten
6. Simon Edvinsson, LHD, Frolunda-SHL
7. William Eklund, LW, Djurgarden-SHL
8. Aatu Raty, C, Karpat-Liiga
9. Chaz Lucius, C, U.S. NTDP-USHL
10. Brandt Clarke, RHD, Nove Zamky-Slovakia

He starts off the article saying:

The 2021 NHL Draft is a wide-open draft class. There are a couple of players, specifically my top four, who have separated themselves a bit; but for the most part, it’s a draft that could go many different ways, starting at the very top and through the top 10.

Careful observers will note that the top two ranked players are categorized as “bubble of NHL All-Star and top of lineup player.” This would put both of them below the top three ranked players in the 2020 draft — Alexis Lafreniere, Quinton Byfield and Tim Stutzle — but either player could be my No. 4-ranked player in comparing the classes.

lol of course you did.

Lets see where they are at the end of the year. Playing more games, less games, blah blah blah whatever. They can still make 19th

Regardless of what FA Tweets, he's going to have to face reality at some point.

JB has limited trade partners unless he's okay with a 14 day quarantine. This is your team.

From everything I seen elsewhere Hughes is ranked 8-10

I've seen Owen Power usually ranked at 1
Evidsson and Guenther ranked as 2 and 3 and Sillenger and Eklund climbing towards the top.

"If you were sitting in the Sportsbar at Rogers Arena during Thursday night’s 3-0 Canucks loss to the visiting Edmonton Oilers, you would have spotted a very invested viewer: Team owner Francesco Aquilini.

He may not have been saying much, but you could tell he was tense and frustrated."

Ya, I think he first one he had Hughes ranked there but said he climbed:

Previous ranking: 8

The U.S. NTDP has had a unique schedule compared to a typical season so it’s hard to size up its players, but Hughes has produced very well and looks the part of a top player. He is a 6-foot-2 elite-skating defenseman with offensive ability, which is a highly appealing toolkit for an NHL projection. Like his brothers, Jack and Quinn, Luke’s edgework is fantastic. His skating and skill combination allows him to generate a lot of controlled exits and entries. His playmaking isn’t at the same level as his brothers, but he has enough skill and vision to be on an NHL power play and be a driver at the top level. He grew two inches over the last year, and the size and skating combination allows him to make a fair number of stops, even if his D-zone coverage isn’t completely refined yet. He can be a bit risky and turnover-prone with the puck, and managing that is the main area of concern with scouts.

On this day in 1989: Trevor Linden scores his 26th and 27th goals of the season during a game at The Forum in Montreal, setting a new team record for goals in a season by a rookie.
