Really they should make it easier to give out 5 min majors. That would have more of an impact than suspensions in my book. Maybe a 5 minute major for interference due to “intent to injure” or something.
- Feds91Stammer

Not a bad idea, but I would make it more of a blanket rule without the intent to injure. The intent gives too much room to the refs to make decisions based on opinion and they have too much say now. If a players hits another player late, then it should be a more severe penalty. Maybe you could degrees like with High Sticking. Do something like a double-major for a regular late hit and a major if it's severe.

You don't need possession to be eligible to be hit. I mean, you said he touched it.

It was late. 2 minute interference. Move on.

No, it was very late. Should have been more than 2:00. However, the league often uses the result/injury to determine if additional time is warranted. That is the wrong approach.
Wilson is a dirty goon, every bit as much as Matt Cooke was. A suspension is absolutely warranted for that hit, or else it will keep happening until Wilson paralyzes somebody.

Some of us are still around 60. 1964 was the final birth year of the baby boomers. The best time to grow up. Me: I got a fat lip. Mom: Wash it off, get back outside. Dad: What does the other guy look like?

Also the hardest working generation we have ever had. I worked with a technician supervisor who was close to his 70's, was diagnosed with cancer and was going through chemo treatments during the day then came into work that night to climb and service giant injection molding machines. Never complained, looked dead tired and just continued to work.

The real life Captain America I tell ya.

Now all I see are 20's and 30's people complaining work is boring and all they do is play on their phones. If they get told to leave the phone alone then they pout.

Definitely the rule would have to be written perfectly but I like the major for the reason a team could score as many PP goals in that 5 as they possibly could. That really hurts your team.

I definitely think there's something there with that. I think it would deter far more than suspensions and fines. Suffering serious in-game repercussions goes a lot further.

I remember them doing participation trophies when I was a kid but there were also bigger trophies the champs got so you knew your little trophy meant you were a loser lol.

Kapanen's game last night was pretty horrrrible.

Lets discuss that.

- IronCity

Dude just looks really out of shape. He gets one amazing burst of speed and then is looking for a line change.

I still cant get used to the thought of Kapanen as a "bigger" guy. He was so scrawny when we drafted him haha.

I think only a few people expected more than that, but he's not even proving to be that. I was at least expecting a solid all around game, which he did bring the first few games, but has since disappeared.

I believe Leafs fans came into this thread and put the kabash on Kap having an all around game lol

I honestly don't remember, but I also won't always listen to leafs fans lol.

He played a more complete game in his first few games than his last few. It just seems like we've been seeing a gradual progression as he's played more.

I'm.. not sure about that one. If someone is hit without possession.. isn't that interference?

That's his actual point, I think he just misspoke in the post you quoted. Blackstrom thinks its just interference, a 2 min minor, and move on. I was unable to watch the game last night, so for once I do not have a take on a Tom Wilson hit.

It was late as (frank) and definitely could have been a fiver, but I don't really give a poop that it wasn't. It's whatever, refs called what they wanted to. Let the refs ref the game and move on, IMO.

He started out playing in the upper bound of what was reasonable to expect from him. Now he's in the lower bound. I really, really hope can find somewhere in the middle to operate consistently out of. This is why most of us were upset we gave up a first for him. We just needed someone better.

At this point it doesn't matter what's called on Tom Wilson in game. He's a dirty piece of poop and he's been aloud to get away with it forever. No reason at all on his end to course correct. Unless player safety sacks up and starts hitting him with major suspensions, it doesn't matter.

This NHL is so soft. Ryan Wislon is a huge part of the problem in this league, advocating against physicality being in hockey...and don't deny it, he is definitely against physical hockey. Crosby's emergence was the beginning and continuation of the boring on ice play that is today's NHL.

I didn't believe physical retaliation would work against Wilson until Gudbranson actually did it and it worked. Trick is finding I guy who can do that but still play reasonably well.

Yep, said even though he killed penalties, his zone awareness was pretty poor. That's been playing out at both ends of the ice so far with Kapanen.
