At least 2 of the 3 guys that were traded in that deal are happier.

Placing Dubois on the wing is very disappointing.

We got the worst coach in the NHL. Maurice holds the record for most losses by a NHL head coach at 578. I am not even confident if we will tonight. Maurice’s teams have a tendency to lose games after a long layoffs or especially in back-to-backs.

If you are going to put PLD on the top line then put him on the top PP unit also. Stastny is ice cold right now 1 goal 2 assists in 11 games with 1 PP point.

PLD is built like a monster power forward and its great to know he can and will play center. The Jets are very deep at center now with Scheifele, Stastny, Lowry, Copp, Wheeler and PLD so they can afford to ease PLD into that position. If he starts to throw his weight around PLD is going to make it tough on any opposition to play against. So many pundits say top teams have to be strong down the middle so the Jets are set very well. They just need a big, stay at home top pairing d-man and a better head coach to be a scary team.

This is a very good post!

Your last point is spot on. This team is definitely built to win a cup.

Starting Sami sends shivers down my spine. I truly hope for the kid and that he can set things right by playing without the huge miscues and stupid penalties. My worry is that he is just not big and strong enough to handle the power forwards of the league and is easily knocked off the puck. This may be his last real chance for a while unless he plays really well.

No reason to be negative about Sami. I still believe in this kid!

Crazy what happens when you put him with a partner that can actually play the position

Some quick game notes...

The top two lines on the Jets look very good together. We might see these lines stick for a while even with Dubios at wing. If it works then why change it just because some on here think Dubios should be center all the time. Eventually, we might see Dubios center the second line and Statsny move somewhere.

Niku played a solid game for the first time this season. Hopefully, it continues. Depth is always important.

Nate Thompson gets the winning goal. I'm still neutral on him though.

Wheeler looking better every game. Seems fully recovered from whatever injury was ailing him

PLD two more points. Patrik who ? As a fan though, I still miss those electrifying one-timers .

Canadiens are looking weaker by the game. Price hasn't looked great either. The cream is rising to the top ....The top three teams Leafs, Jets, and Oilers could each beat each other any one night.

I'd like to see Brossiot play more , especially against the Habs. Helle still looks shaky in first periods .

Awww Yea, Jets are too good to even allow poopty coaching bring them down.

PLD - the man is the real deal

Ehlers and Connor, in fact Ehlers and anyone look good. I love Ehlers.

Mark Scheifele, what can I say: MVP, MVP, MVP!!!

On a side note: Skinner on Buffalo...a $9 MM per year man who has been benched three games in a row ? Often on the checking line. Six more years beyond this at $9 MM. He quickly becomes the league's worst contract and one that pretty much impossible to off.

This is why those super expensive contracts can penalize a team for many years. It also was another reason to trade Laine. He'll want $9-$10 MM and Chevy just doesn't do those contracts.

Didn't you hear, Auston Matthews has already been awarded the hart, the Art Ross, the Norris and the Vezina trophies? Maybe the Jack Adams?

Do you think that the Jets might be possibly showcasing Sammy Niku? Mete wants out of Montreal, but the Jets probably have no interest. Not sure he could fit here either.

We played against a fast skating, smaller team last night......a good decision to play Niku over Stanley.

Lots of hate on this board, particularly directed at the coach. Its like a mantra of repetition. When I read on this board, its the same narrative.

Doesn't matter if the team wins or lose, he is bad. His fault in a loss and the teams credit when they win. No win for the coach on this board.

But, the good news now that CJOB has the NHL back on air and I hear they are bringing back the "Beefs and bouquets" whine line, for anyone old enough to remember.

It should give everyone on here another platform to focus the negativity on the airwaves and diversify from just being online.

Just learned how this quote thing works..... But good thing Ladd never signed the reported 6 x 6 that was reported to have been offered. Look at the Islanders now with that contract.

Then, Beefalo goes and signs Kyle Oposo at a hefty contract and lands another bad contract in Skinner.

I am a Laine fan and he will continue to score for CLB and he is a good asset but PLD, another capable center, at $5 m for this year and next year and control in RFA status is very appealing as well.

I agree, love Laine but he needs to be put in a perfect situation to succeed at 5v5, otherwise he will be that unbelievable power play specialist. PLD will not score like Laine but is the better overall player for sure.

Is this just my observation but is Denis Beyak losing it?

He constantly calls players the wrong names for years now but last night he referred to "The Leafs and the Habs". I thought my wife changed the tv channel but apparently not. He confuses an old guy like me.

Agree with both assessments!

Hated to lose Jack Roslovic, but also hated to lose Brandon Tanev. Tine for me to move on! Not room,, or salary, for everyone, Players come, players go.

positives;

-sheif
-PLD - but get him back to center
-Appleton
-Lowry
-Niku played well with Demelo, Demelo is a good partner for him
-Demelo seems to be taking heat this year but to me he is still so clearly our 2nd best D only behind Pionk.

negatives;

-wheels is still bad ( or not as good may be more polite), don't give him praise playing with two all stars, Lewis would get the same results. the longer Wheels stays in his same top 6 role and top pp the longer this team is being held back from taking the next step. sorry, but wheels is a consistently a step behind the play and seen wondering
-Beu and Thompson are not NHL'ers PERIOD they are holding this team back, they should be last resort plays. Heinaols, Samberg, Stanley, Niku should all play before Beaus and Gus, Ves, Harkins should all play before Thompson. this isn't funny anymore, its sad
-Forbot has slowed down a lot and its showing, I haven't liked him for a while
-Morrisey can not carry any D, Poolman was and could possibly be better than him, accept that, cause all the evidence is now suggesting it. and im not trying to praise Poolman, he is still best suited for thrid pair. just saying Morrisey is not a top pair D without a a partner clearly better than him. give him Heinola or demelo stat.
-our power play has been league average for three years, why are we still trying the same things????? wheels, stastny and Morrisey all need to go down to 2nd unit with Ehlers, PLD and Pionk up to top unit. Ves should be the shooter on 2nd unit.

Not sure about Denis, never noticed. He is a great play-by-play man. One of the best!

Two things bug me about the TV telecasts:

1. The artificial crowd noise is a-w-a-y too loud; and

2. The late starts for home games - like why should we have to start a home game in Wpg at 9:00 p.m. - and against the Habs? Actually I know why, it's because SportsNet figures everyone in Canada wants to watch the Leafs. Still that bugs me! My whine!!!

I wouldn't call it hate, its frustration!!

I love this team!!! I think we can win it all!!!

but yes, I am blaming Maurice for holding the team back. I do not see us winning it all without some changes being made, that Maurice will not make. I think I am allowed to be frustrated by that.

look at it this way, Canada would never be ok or happy with a silver or bronze medal in the Olympics, NEVER!! so why should I be ok with a playoff appearance and possibly a first round win? don't settle

maybe some of us who are seen as "haters" are actually more excited and optimistic about this team than those just happy to see us with a winning record.

I'm not here for Participation ribbons.

ask yourself this; do we win more games with;

A

Morrisey-Poolman
Forbott-Pionk
Beau-Demelo
-this is Maurice's ideal healthy 6

or B

Morrisey-Demelo
Heinola -Pionk
Stanley/Samberg/Forbott - Poolman

I'll take B all Day.

would you rather see a 4th line of

Perreault-Thompson-Lewis ( Maurice's ideal 4th line )
or
any 3 of Perreault, Ves, Gus, Harkins

again, I'll take the later.

what is a more deadly top PP?

55-25-26-81-44
or
55-13-27-81-4

again, I'll take the later.

if you all disagree with me, please explain why

I agree on the fake noise, its terrible. And, the late starts are terrible as well. So, the Saturday night game against the Habs starts at 9. That's 10 pm for Habs fans, so much for watching your team at a reasonable time.

And I agree Denis is a good play by play but he makes lots of verbal mistakes on players names and last night it was the Leafs and the Habs.
