Last night, as he did in practice on Tuesday, Vigneault moved Nolan Patrick from third line center to play right wing on a line with Giroux and Kevin Hayes. I thought Patrick played a solid two-way first period, including a pair of shot attempts and a couple of nice plays he made with the puck. His off-puck work the rest of the night remained solid (as it usually is) but he was scarcely involved offensively again over the final 40 minutes. - bmeltzer
Hopefully he can get some confidence and consistency going before he's bumped back down to 3C.

i think Patrick is still getting his conditioning and confidence/reflexes up to where they could be
those things take time
he'll get chances playing with G and Hayes and that should help his confidence
i think his conditioning/reflexes will be a year long work in progress after all his time off |

I partially agree. Patience is still in order for sure. But Patrick had prolonged stretches like these, too, in his first and second seasons. Then he'd got hot for 10 games (rookie year) to 14 games (second year) before regressing to being a little too uninvolved offensively. I think he slips into a comfort zone -- play well defensively, do no harm offensively but stay on the perimeter unless there's a gaping lane to the scoring areas -- that he needs to push himself out of a little more. He's not even attempting to shoot nearly enough, for one thing. If it gets blocked or misses the net, shoot again the next time you think there's a lane. And be more assertive in making plays, like he did in training camp. Don't wait for the D to make a mistake; MAKE them make mistakes. |

Patrick lost an entire year...he has moments where he looks ready to break out offensively. He still is playing on the defensive side of the puck, so, there is hope.
Question, was it a thumb or wrist injury in Tampa that altered Renberg's release? I know he was never the same offensively after the injury but I don't remember which. |

I thought he had a bad shoulder but I could be wrong.

Mikael had both... broken wrist his first year in Tampa, broken thumb before the trade back to the Flyers. Right around Christmas, as a Flyer, he suffered a separated shoulder in Boston on a routine hit into the seamless glass (which caused a lot of injuries). He had broken ribs late in the season but tried to play through it the playoffs. Was also going through a divorce with his ex moving back to Sweden with their daughter. All of that clearly affected him. |

Wow. Now that was a rough go with injuries. Loved him as a player. First live flyers game I ever saw was at the forum in Montreal the first game of the 95 96 season. They crushed them 7 1 and chased Roy. The legion of doom line was incredible And renny played great that game.

Give me the unknown of Friedman over the known bad play of Hagg any day. In the end yes it isn't a big deal; though to continually play Hagg is borderline insane. He is just not a good NHL dman.
Bill if Friedman is waived again, will they Flyers take him back do you think? - login
Maybe but then they'd have to have to keep him on the NHL roster and not the Taxi Squad which was why he was waived in the first place.
Also, even if Friedman doesn't get much playing time, I think Hexy would "Martel" or "Weal" him and keep him in the NHL even if he barely plays. |

Then you waive or trade Hagg. He is just flat out bad. There is no other way to put it. There is always a GM out there who loves the Haggs of the world.
Plus Friedman is cheap and had a 2 year contract. |

In Patrick's case, is there any precedence of a top 10 pick not being very good at all and then several seasons later becoming a perennial 60 to 80 point scorer.
I can't seem to think of any. I know the later rounds have a bunch. |

While I agree I also think he becomes more hesitant the more physical games become. It’s like hartnel down again. He seems to go down easily with contact. But protecting the head I get it. Last night frenchie looked to almost bulldog him to the ice. He did nothing but neither did the team I guess. I think it’ll take him a year to trust himself and his body again. But hope it is sooner. |

Joe Thornton as a rookie had 3 goals and 7 points in 55 games. Then 41 points his second year. Became an impact player in year three (60 points) and a point-per-game player in year four.

Well if he’s that bad who would trade for him.
Again you propose we ice a lesser team just bc. Sit Haag and NAK for Friedman and bunnaman.
And you’ll say trade them for picks. But with your assessment why would anyone trade for them. They are just so horrible. |

Slightly different styles but would say jvr would be close. Or a Carter ( just flyers comparables). Slightly different styles but took some time for consistency in putting up numbers. Coots and Richie too just bc of the advance d game. ( not on either level but still) |

He is that bad; stats and the eye test verify this. As I said in my post there is always a GM out there who thinks differently about players despite what the stats say. poopty players get traded all the time do they not? Dont trade him then waive him.
I didnt say sit NAK either. I said he is replaceable. They would be a better team with Friedman as his small sample size shows this to be the case. |
