While I do not believe Porty's thoughts that Torts wants fired I do think it is time for him to go. He has done wonders for this team in bringing a culture of accountability and respectability but that has only gotten them so far in 6 years. If he doesn't plan on signing a new contract then just move on, promote Brad Shaw, or take a run at someone like Gallant. |

Yeah the coach needs to go. - 3rd GM's the charm
the hour is rather late for that....
To figure what is Tort's next move, it's probably nailed down to 3 options;
-He's retiring
-He has a secret agreement to coach somewhere else in place (maybe a second stint in NY)
-Or he's not on the same page as Kekaleinen in terms of how the team should be built and will be actively seeking another job come summer 2021, if so, it's probably in his best interest to show he can still win games... |

Detroit could use Torts......But waiting for Lane Lambert is probably the Yzerplan.

You know folks,
When I see the possible reasons why Torts might be leaving there is one nobody has thought of.
It is quite possible that he has realized he's taken this franchise as far as it can go. Even with Laine and Rosolovic adding to the offense he understands that the CBJ's ceiling as a franchise is a first, or maybe second, round playoff loss. No UFA's want to come here, they can't sign anyone they have, and the team can't or won't spend to the cap.
Torts is an older coach, he wants one more crack at a Stanley Cup before he retires, just like any veteran player wants. He knows that will never happen in Columbus, so it is better to bail now at he end of his contract then ride the bobsled down hill until it crashes at the bottom of the course.
I really hope I am wrong, and we are wrong about him leaving. But it looks like this team is going to fail this year and he might be headed out the door. |

spending to the cap has not been a problem , ownership was committed , and they were a cap team before this pandemic, even the mighty Terry Pengula and all his money said the Sabres would operate on a budget.
But, one can argue there is a drop-off in FA retention while Torts is around, Bob signed a four year extension before all of a sudden packing his bags, attracting the big names on the market was always out of the question, signing mid tier never has (Nyquist for instance). Koivu and his surprised retirement, Dubois went from hyped and thankful the cbj took him 3rd to '' wanting to play on a bigger stage'' and then bringing up hazy reasons as to his departure. So yes there is reason to argue the coach and this mass exodus might have a correlation. |

Laine; if no indication is received that he will re-sign soon, he must be traded. LA was reported as where he wanted to go, CBJ could make a haul by trading him there! LA is the surprise team of the league and could very well be buying soon!
Laine for Kempe, Anderson-Dolan, and Turcotte
2 centers with a ton of potential and a good winger! Maybe a bit more.
Torts leaves for a contender, CBJ hires Gallant.....or even Boudreau. CBJ has a future still! |
