Anthony Travalgia: Laurent Brossoit leads Jets past Canucks Laurent Brossoit's 29 save performance and first shutout of the season pushed the Jets past the Canucks in Vancouver Friday night.

Once again goaltending save the day for the Jets. They can't be giving up so many high quality chances especially against better teams. Where is a recognizable defensive system, or zone breakout that other NHL teams have?

Canucks have zero business winning ANY games in those god-awful jerseys.

I have always seen the Jets as a chaotic team. The seem to thrive when scrambling and taking chances. Not ideal, but easily one of the most entertaining teams to watch. Brossoit had an excellent outing. Considering they pretty much the entire season without Ras/Laine/PLD (i know he played a couple games on the 3rd line, but that won't be his role for long), they have done very well. Jets fan's must be thrilled to see such quality depth at C finally!!!

Issuing this comment once again:
Thompson was put in the lineup over a 21 year old 1st round draft pick under the excuse that he would be killing penalties.

Nate Thompson did not play on the penalty kill.

Kristian Vesalainen will be the next Finnish prospect to want out of Maurice’ grasp.

Reposting this from the last thread.

According to the nhl website Thompson played 6:56 with all that time being even strength last night against the Canucks, zero time on the PK.

Also of note, Forbort had a bit more total minutes played then Morrissey and DeMelo had the least minutes played of the dmen but just 15 seconds less then NB88, Poolman had a about two more minutes played then NateB, seems like the Forbort-Pionk pairing is the Jets top D pair now.

The penalty kill excuse is one of the most laughable things that Maurice says. Are we really suppose to believe that guys like Gustafsson and Harkins can't learn the Jets PK system by watching a video and taking part in a couple of practices.

Personally I believe they can, which should give them roster spots over Thompson and Lewis.

Thatcher Demko was equally as good if not better. The Jets didn't win on one goaltender being better than the other.

Well based on the fact that he’s gone to extreme lengths to protect Blake Wheeler, it does appear that he’s anti anyone that offers feedback on Wheeler’s play. I felt embarrassed for Maurice during that presser where he goes after Wheeler’s critics. It left me wondering where Maurice is at when it comes to defending others players like Scheifele, Connor and yes even Laine, when he was here.

My mind is also boggled by the fact that he intends on placing PLD on the the number 2 pp unit along with Jets leading goal scorer Ehlers. It’s clear to me who is running this team and that man is Blake Wheeler. What else would explain why him and Stastny continue to be on the top unit?

From my perspective, the top unit should be Scheifele, Connor, PLD, Ehlers and Pionk.

You also have to feel bad for Logan Stanley. He is clearly heads and shoulders better than Beaulieau. Again another example of a player not getting an opportunity over a tired old veteran.

You are not wrong about Wheeler running this team! Also explains why he is allowed to play hurt and go minus 11 while the next closest Jet is only minus 4

But I hope you realize both Samberg and Heinola are better right now than Stanley. This is not me knocking Stanley, he has pleasantly surprised me but the sooner we allow Heinola and Samberg to play the better !!! Delaying them is a waste of time.

Bang on. Stanley has been an unreal suppressor. Beaulieu is horrible, tho I do admire his work ethic, and ability to eat pucks on the pk. Stanley has been nothing short of rock-solid, and it would be nice to see his development continue to grow. He might be able to mix in a little offense in his game if Maurice can instill a little more confidence.

Blake has made some odd plays of late, tho his numbers are still great. I agree that he is probably not a top 6 forward on the Jets today, but maybe they are simply trying to inflate his numbers for a potential trade? No idea. If he can produce for one more year beyond this season, his buyout is very reasonable (4 years at 2.5M aav and the Cap should be poised to increase significantly).Hopefully it doesn't come to that but as a worst case scenario, that's reasonable. The guy appears to be a great leader, and I think the culture in the jets locker room is in the best place it's been.

As long as Maurice is here, Wheeler will never leave the top 6 or top PP. it’s very sad

I am ok with that for now...... I get it, and he is not a top 6 guy at the moment, but in creating a balanced 3 lines, it does make sense. Not long ago he was thrust into the 1C role and did very well when the Jets were desperate. And that buyout option after next season is very reasonable. The Cap is projected to take a massive hike after their upcoming broadcasting rights is finalized. Hopefully Wheeler finds his game again, and this was all just a bad stretch that many pro's go through.

I get that Wheeler’s 5-5 play has been disappointing especially early this season- but why are we talking about pulling him off the pp? And a buyout after next year? Stop The Madness!

Yea, absolute nonsense! Is PLD playing tonight?

Not the Jets coach of course, but if I was it would be:
Connor-Scheif-Wheeler
Stasnty-PLD-Ehlers
Copp-Lowry-Appleton
Vessy-Harkins-Perreault
Lewis

Morrissey-Poolman
Forbort-Pionk
Stanley -DeMelo
Beaulieu

Or switch Stastny and Copp.

You forgot to add Nate Thompson to that line-up. No way do Harkins and Ves get ahead of Thompson and Lewis in Maurice’s world.

Yea I think you're right. I was just stating what line-up "I" would field if I were in charge of making these decisions.
And I certainly have no back-ground in hockey management.

Many coaches like veterans. They know what they can, and what they can't do.

That’s fine if the veterans are better than the players they are beating out. In Maurice’s case this might actually make sense as he continues to show he does not know how to roll out 4 lines considering that his 4th line continually gets less than 10 minutes a game.

Imagine if we had a coach that could roll out 4 lines. The difference in energy levels for players would be immense. That coach would also dictate the flow of the game, especially with so much center depth, the Jets should theoretically start every game with their feet on opponents throats. But we will do it the Maurice (grinding) way.

To be fair, we have yet to really enjoy any of this massive "center depth".

I sure don't want the Jets rolling out four lines on a regular basis. If so, they won't win many game as don't see much scoring coming from fourth line. Less than ten minutes a game for 4th line, or 6-8 is fine with me. Gotta score to win!

Now if we're ahead comfortably that's different, you can roll out the four lines and conserve the 1st three lines. Then 15 minutes a game for 4th liners, you bet!

When I get mad at coaching staff is when we're down 3-1 and they roll out Lewis and company. Pretty boring game with 4th lines rolled on a even basis. Like we're not talking Teemu Selanne on the 4th line.

Paul Maurice is actually playing PLD on the wing to keep Nate Thompson in the lineup.

He’s trying to “ease him back into the lineup” apparently. By playing him out of position. On the top line. Sounds easy.

How does an owner watch this and think it’s ok??????
Seriously!!!
-Thompson and Beaulieu are NOT NHL’ers!!!
-Wheeler is now a third liner!!!
-Heinola and Samberg are ready!! And better than forbot and Beaulieu
-Vesalainen, Gustafson and Harkins all to should be in!!

I’m so done with Maurice wasting what could be such a good team
