Pegula's never hired anyone experienced

How about russ Brandon and his decades of professional sports management?

He sucks ass 😀

- Boss34

It was a horrible hire with someone who knew nothing about Hockey. They hired La La, love the guy but he couldn't remember where his office was. What ever there doing isn't working, they should have hired a Dudley and let them right the ship.

Brandon had the experience with ZERO success. Decent marketer. Horrid running an nfl team.

Ted black, ok business side, never built a team!

Byslma, was knee jerk to babs using Terry to drive up his cost. But was Byslma the right choice based on the talent and team build
Of the time.

Have the gm and coach ever been on the same page with how they want to play and the talent they bring in... doesn’t seem like that’s ever occurred.

Zero Buffalo Bills success = Toronto Bill's

Both he and Rieder have been top 5 among our forwards.

Lazar, Rieder, Reinhart, Olofsson and pick someone

👍

Kinda odd that you did, what you wanted the pegula's to do, and it didn't work out.
Sorry to hear.

I think the Ralph/ gmka combo is for synergy reasons.
Respectable gentlemen.

- Boss34

But either way you're hiring someone. I would take my chance at someone with a track record of success running the entire operation rather than two respectable gentlemen (translation: no history of success) any day of the week. Again, this isn't how successful sports organizations are run.

Eichel and Thompson to LA for Byfield, Turcotte and a pick

Eichel to NYR for Lafreniere and Chytil

Eichel to NJD for Hughes and Ty Smith

Most people in management with that piss poor of a track record get fired. That can't happen with the Pegulas obviously.

The LaFontaine story still cracks me up 7 years later. They hired him after being so impressed with him at a concussion seminar. "Hey, Pat, we loved your talk on 'Why I'll never be right in the head again'. Come run our hockey team!"

Didn't they keep the longest tenured gm/coach combo in the league? And add ted black?

Thats what you do: keep the current employees and learn. Once you get an idea of how things really go..

That's what the pegula's did. ☝️

- Boss34

Wasn't Ted Black the President of the Business side, not Hockey Ops?
Darcy reported into Terry directly...it was weird back then, a completely different structure.
That went well, lol.

I don't disagree. I was reading the article on one of the sites (I think it was the hockey writers) and they said that if Sabres fan thinks Byfield is in the discussion then you are delusional. It would have to include Byfield ++. Jack is an accomplished star in this league just coming into his prime and signed to a nice contract for many years.

I'd go for the la deal, take back Dustin brown in lieu of the pick. they'll need to shed salary and he is the type of guy to hold people accountable. send it

And there’s gonna be A LOT of teams bidding on Jack if we make him available
I think we get around 4 assets that we like,
and probably a couple guys with salary to help Eichel’s Cap Hit for on his new team

Tough to say which team will lose their mind & “overpay” for Jack, but someone will

They definitely miss Risto. And Eakin sucks. I never liked that signing. You're arguing like 4 different points here.

Lazar and Rieder have been bright spots on this team. The current Larrys are fine. Better than fine even

- jcragcrumple

🤝

I thought you were the " just get anyone, they can't be worse" crowd.

I think we both likes larry lazar.

If they were winning and looked like they weren't missing "something ". I'd agree that the guys that left/ injured were replaceable.

Girgs was really good for 2 years. Average for a couple and good last year. I was not super high on girgs, but he earned a raise going into his ufa year.

Maybe Ralph likes guys that score goals?
12 goals @ 1.4 million gets you 3 for 6.6
14 goals @ 9 million gets you 4th line minutes.

Seems really simple, Ralph wants his team to score

I'd go straight to Anaheim see if Gibson and Zegras are available. Thats the only deal i'd want. Byfield will be a low end 2C, Laffy is not worth it as he plays winger.
