So how underwhelmed are we all going to be when they name Leaman as coach over the summer?
- Powerslave

I'm going to be completely honest here.

My excitement level will not raise or lower one iota if they hire BBQ, Leaman or Tommy from Orchard Park.

Jon Cooper was an attorney who coached a high school hockey team.

I can't imagine him having any value.
- Lunaion

Not like we're getting a 1st round pick or anything, but apparently he has value as a solid depth goalie, that's available. Reckon we will see.

Plus he's most likely going to be a group 6 free agent, so might as well get something for him.

Edit: looks like that was mentioned

I guess, but it'll probably end up being a 6th in 2023.

Ek put up with him until he got firmly on the wrong side of the "unbearable edgelord" vs. "he draws page views" equation

Hamilton had an interesting take yesterday

perhaps a new coach is in quarantine and not able to coach until monday. assuming the move was made after the back to back flyer shut outs

something to think about

The NHLPA would strike for half a decade straight before thinking of caving in on guaranteed contracts.

Good luck to Bettman or anyone on getting rid of that.

- kingcong39

I did not say if was going to be easy, it would for sure be a strike...and well worth it too, go break it!

I'll respond point counter-point style.

1. There's really not much data here, other than assumptions. You have one trade, Staal for Johansson, which was a great piece of business. And the gamble with Kahun, which seems to have been correct. So it's hard to say yes I trust him or not I don't. The rubber meets the road when he starts moving real players on this team.

2. I wouldn't consider it bagging. But he echoed a point (sorta) that I made yesterday. A coach isn't going to infer that he's going to be the coach of the Sabres before Ralph is fired, or even before he's been named coach. Why BBQ said he was interested in Sabres games is a little weird, though. Maybe he sees a path to coach here? I don't think he says anything if he's been formally contacted for an interview, however. With this org though, who the (frank) knows what bush league bullpoop they're running.

3. It leaves us with Tokarski, in which he will be used to expose to Seattle. I agree with Elliot that Ullmark is probably here next season. We'll need to pay close attention the the second guy they bring in. Is he over the hill? Is he a career backup? Is he a start sharer? Was he surpassed by a young guy? What Kevyn does at this position in the offseason will be very telling as to how they see Ullmark. But using Johansson as a trade chip is absolutely the smart play.

- TheSabresTaco

I’ll keep the train rolling....

1- I can agree on the small trade he has orchestrated. But I am reluctant due to the lack of experience in that front office. Coupled with the contracts to Gus and Tage, it’s enough to make one uneasy when the complexities of the bigger trades can get crazy.

2- I see and concede the point. It is probably just Bruce trying to get his name out there. Which is fine, I guess. Hell, maybe there is a path to Ralph heading upstairs and Bruce coming in and that’s where the comment comes from. Who knows with this organization. But I guess I’d take Ralph, Adams, BBQ Bruce. Over Kim, Adams, Ralph... again, Ralph is or was, likable, he has the pegs hoodwinked and they don’t want to pay him not to coach. So pay him to president, get him away from on ice. Let him re-synergize the fan base while distancing Kim... I’d take that through his contract and revisit next off season.

3- with Ullmark showing two years of injury. It should be a really strong 1b that’s brought in. Someone that can handle the workload for a month if Ullmark goes down. I want to see Ullmark here. I like him. You just need stronger behind him.
