Well it was me yesterday. Guess not today.

Needed a mental break from this team. Feeling a little better (myself), and worse about the team.

I fully understand it. When you sign a depth defenseman for min salary, why is he playing close to 20 min a night? That's second pairing minutes. My point isn't that he's playing and not doing well (expected) it's that he's being asked and deployed to do just that.
- SDSabre

So you blame the guy playing 20 minutes and not the one who controls his ice time and what situation to put him in...? Thats backwards buddy.

You guys are blaming a defenseman who wouldn't be playing if the D weren't hurt. The only reason he played before they were hurt was because Joker wasn't playing very well, and he still isn't. He's playing at Irwins level. There is literally only one thing wrong with this team and its BEHIND THE BENCH.
- DirtyDan

See we're saying the same thing. I have no problem with Irwin. It's his 2nd pairing deployment that I'm perplexed by.

The post by Sciandra was fantastic from the other day. Not gonna dig it up, but it was along the lines of Skinner sweating it out in a dark room, Ralph popping up on a giant screen, asking Skinner a question about a lecture that Ralph held, Skinner not being able to answer, and Ralph say "That's too bad.."

Hilarious and probably accurate.

- TheSabresTaco

I remember we had these CCD work books when I was a kid and you could basically answer every question with "God is love." Just answer "synergy," Jeff. It's always the right answer

"I'm ready to synergy, Ralph!'

Calling a bad player bad isn't blaming him. It is what it is. We are saying the same thing. His deployment is the issue.

Your blaming the player for his deployment though when he doesn't decide how much he plays... your beating around your own bush. Irwin is doing what Irwin does... Ralph on the other hand s doing a horrible job with combinations and synergy and ice time and everything that comes along with beING A COACH.

Ok how's this: Irwin is a bad hockey player, even by 7th reserve d standards. Ralph is also bad for trying to play him above his level. Just because I don't say the second part doesn't change the accuracy of the first part. I'm not beating around any bush. Irwin is a bad hockey player and I'm ready to die on that hill.

Really, though, at this point Ralph has very few options on D

"My job every single morning is to continually try to do what's best for the Sabres with all the information we have and my trusted circle of coaches and Kevyn Adams," he said. "I'd love to share everything all the time with everybody. I want to be transparent. There are certain things that evolve in the development of a team, or the group, behind the scenes. Every decision is made for the whole, for the group."

Losing Risto, McCabe and Borgen probably has a lot to do with that. You'd hope as you said that the Joker pairing would get more time, but I highly doubt it. Didn't see a lot of Bryson in the 3rd period.

The 2 ahl guys pairing? Very intriguing. ☝️

I'm with you on irwin, but he was signed to be a 7th d.
Spent 8 million on a 1 goal winger.
9 on a zero goal winger

Kinda limits the options at replacement players. Especially with jbotts crew of defenseman , eventually making their way thru the system

Guess who has 4 times the goals and 2/3 of the point totals of our 17M LWers.. League min Dom Kahun, while being a positive possession player and getting mostly d zone starts.

Also, Joki isn't having the best year, and I did say the pairing is intriguing, meaning there could be hope that he turns it around with Bryson as opposed to the not great play of Irwin.. Don't know why this is so controversial. Either we suck with Irwin playing more, or we take a gamble and maybe suck with Joki-Bryson pairing. I guess I'm a betting man, roll the dice on the kids.

Why, wasn't the same thing said about Borgen or Bryson. Those guys are playing very well in Rochester. Would be nothing wrong with giving them a taste.

Ryan Jones is 24.. Gonna be 25 this year. Should be ready for a call up when? When he's 28? What's the worst that happens? He gets caved in defensively and plays like, I don't know, Matt Irwin type? At some point, good organizations grow a set and try something unknown. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. You know what bad organizations do. Play Matt Irwin regularly, injuries or not.

Here's some more quality bullpoop

"My job, combined with the attitude and work ethic of a player, is to find the potential of player. When eventually Jeff is called upon again, maybe we drive him close to his potential working together on that solution. The decisions are made for the players in the lineup rather than against anybody else."

Maaaaaybe we get him close to his potential
