See where Gusev is still out due to the COVID protocol. That aside, is there a reason why Gusev has struggled so far this season. Not getting an opportunity to watch the Devils, does it have anything to do with line mates, the new coaching staff, effort? Just wondering because I thought Gusev would certainly build upon his pretty good freshman season in the NHL.

Seems like he is being more hesitant and has been trying to send passes that aren't there and he also hasn't been getting any luck at all.

My buddies and I have been having similar conversations over the past year about who's in/who's out of the lineup when everybody is available.

I definitely don't know the answer, but the one thing that is for sure is that this year and heading into future seasons, we finally have a bunch of young options at nearly every position that are fighting for their spots.

While all these young guys might not be studs, they certainly have roles to fill in the NHL and it'll be up to them to prove it and earn it. Finally, there is a decently long list of guys who are going to fight for the 3/4 line minutes, and as soon as next season we could see some real good battles for 1/2 line wing minutes with higher end picks in Holtz/Foote potentially coming into the fold and challenging for minutes next to Jack and Nico.

We're definitely not there yet in terms of finishing the rebuild, but slowly but surely the players are starting to trickle in and fill out the lineup. Definitely reason to be reasonably optimistic.

I would agree with what has been said.
He is playing well, perhaps the new system.

He is getting shots, sometimes forced, but on net.

I'm a big fan of these soft clears/zone passes and having the winger chase. Lets us use speed to get in behind the defense quickly and transition into offense. We have a lot of speed on the team but not necessarily that elite offensive talent. Plays to our strengths and stretch the game out.
