Ya there is a big difference between 48 hour quarantine and 14 days. Wow. In this condensed schedule that makes a big difference. But what a boost it will be to have Dubois join the club! Jets looked great last night and Dubois will only add to this stacked top 9. Is PLD available to play in the next game?

Yes his quarantine is up on Saturday so he will get a practice at least before Tuesday against CGY

Good thing for Dubois is that he will be playing his first game on the road. Sometimes performing in front of home-town fans in a debut can be a bit nerve racking.

Should be a good boost for us. We can roll 4 solid lines or 3 pretty scary ones. We'll only get better!

after all the talk about Wheeler and Maurice the past few days its worth noting that Wheeler put in his best effort and had an overall strong game.

He heard the pressure and responded - he still has the ability to play at a high level. My hope is that with the energy output required to play at that level and a condensed season that a) his body/mind/emotion can continue the high level of play b) reduced play time at even strength, this means separating from sheifele unless chasing a game... lets call it load management.

One thing is clear and that is that Wheeler is Maurice’s favourite player. Just reading from the last thread, Ross77 made a great point about Maurice’s contradictions. Regardless of that and due to fact we are in this weak division, we should come out on top. This team should win a Stanley Cup this year!

Right now is the most excited I have been about the Jets since Laine arrived in Wpg. I am a fan of Laine and Ros but right now with the arrvial of Dubois as such a solid center to add to the center depth along with players like Ves, Gufts, Heiola, Samberg trying to get into the lineup, the team is looking stacked.

Top off with solid tending, might be able to do some serious damage even with a so/so D. But, even with the so so D, there are solid next man up like Poolman, Heinola, Niku, Samburg.

This looks like a beast is coming into form, just saying

Schiefle's board work and puck retrieval mentioned by some other posters are just off the charts.

He has taken this aspect of his game to a whole different level in what seems to be a short period of time. He draws defensive critism but the board work and retrieval elevated exponentailly this season.

When I look back at all the trades, or UFA's that Chevy chose not to sign , I'd say that he was seldom wrong. There were a few that I didn't really like , such as losing Ben Chariot, whom I thought was a hard-hitting Dman just coming into his own. I would have like to have kept Myers & Tanev, but only at the right price as they signed for too much elsewhere. I would have liked to get at least a 2nd round pick in the Laine/ Roslovic trade but am not losing sleep over it because there was no place for Jack in the lineup when we got Statsny , and we also got a top-notch NHL center in Dubios.

The bottom line though is there has never been a trade by Chevy that I lost any sleep over and when we look back , losing the players we lost like Frolik, Chariot, Trouba, Tanev, Myers, Bogosian, etc never really made much difference. Laine and Roslovic will do very well in Columbus without a doubt, but I strongly believe that Dubois will do the same here & that 3rd pick might save us from losing a guy like Stanley or Apples.

Biggest takeaway last night for me is we may have a 4th line, Vaisalainen Gustafsson Lewis looked really really good

That would be huge change for the Jets

I find it coincidental that colour analyst Ferraro spent a lot of time last game's broadcast on Scheif's mastery of puck retrieval after those postings. Yes, Scheif is one of the best in the NHL at puck retrieval, especially on offence, where he doesn't have to worry as much on sacrificing his defensive responsibilities.

While PLD is best known for his straight-line speed and offence capabilities, he is also very good at puck retrieval. He's a very strong kid and with him, Scheif, and Statsny all excelling at puck-retrieval, plus a 4th line that is starting to gel , I think possession time in the other teams end will show a marked increase. PLD comes just in time as the Jets schedule starts to face the tougher opponents in our division.

Sam Bennett is apparently being shopped by the Flames. I notice last game that the Flames were just no the same team without him on the ice. He was also a very formidable foe in the playoff series against the Jets.

Bennett an upcoming RFA that might get a bit of a bump on his next contract. A somewhat similar player to Lowry and plays a similar type role , but not quite as tall but has more skill . Any team that wants to improve in the playoffs would be wise to nab him. I think most fans of the Jets would have loved to have had him on our side during the playoffs but that being said I do not see a spot for him in our lineup anymore for the type of salary he will be asking and our new depth a center. It will be interesting to see who nabs him as there are some teams out there that could use a center like him. Minny immediately comes to mind. So does Arizona.

If the Jets could get Bennett for Niku he would be a great and physical 4th liner. I just don't think the Jets could fit his salary under the cap.

Detroit could use him, Bennett fits in the age of the Wings core as well.

Don't you always want to see the young guys play?

Bennett gets in the way of that, he'd be a good addition but I want to see Vesalainen and Harkins get more ice time/opportunity, silly that neither have been given a sniff of time on the 2nd powerplay unit.

I do want to see young draft and develop players play but would prefer the Jets had Bennett instead of Thompson, Lewis and even Perreault.

I'd do Bennett for both Appleton & Niku but Calgary will never trade Sam with the Jets and Bennett may not be happy being on the 3rd line. Nice to dream about the damage Bennett and Lowry could do together on one line.

My thinking is that if we're going to use up any of the salary cap, it is going to be for a upgrade on the RH defence.

PLD gives us a new look up front with added grit that we so much needed.

My line-up up front next game:
Copp-Scheifele-Ehlers
Connor-PLD-Wheeler
Stastny-Lowry-Appleton
Perreault-Gustafsson-Lewis

Stastny will get a bigger role than 3rd line when he plays on the PP.

The D I would leave alone, let Poolman get some more recovery time. Injuries will occur.

It's a good feeling to have Harkins, Poolman, Thompson, Vesalainen, Heinola waiting in the wings for their turn. It will come. This team is deep, but could use, as everyone pretty well knows, an up grade on the back-end.

Otherwise, we're pretty well set!

Anthony Travalgia: The Jets are not happy with NHL’s new COVID-19 protocols
On Thursday the NHL introduced changes to their COIVD-19 protocols, leaving the Jets unhappy with one of the changes.

It's understandable that Copp and the Jets are not happy with the new Covid protocols. However, look at what is happening with the Avalanche and the Wild. It's bad enough to have several games postponed and then have an even more compressed schedule, but they also have to shut down all the training facilities, can't practice, and are likely stuck in their hotel rooms. So suddenly not being allowed to show up until 90 minutes before a game doesn't really sound so bad in comparison.

If a few more USA based teams in any one division come down with Covid ( likely in the West division) while the CDN teams seem to be all Covid free, it's going to lead to some very interesting decisions by the NHL. My prediction is that the likely NHL decision will be to shorten the schedule for all teams. So if 56 games suddenly becomes 45 games then every point is that more valuable. If there was one message Chevy and Maurice could install on the players it would be just that.

Think the NHL has addressed the 1 hour and 45 minutes issue, but think it was kind of blown out of proportion anyways.

But, having said that, being a creature of habit myself, cam see where some of the players are coming from. Hopefully it is all resolved, and like you say, there are bigger issues to be resolved.

Wonder if the NHL might decide to try an attempt to shorten the season to 41 games - half a normal season? Certainly hope they don't ....but??? Rather they maintain current amount scheduled, but if reduced, maybe 50 games?

Bennett is a bad 4th liner. Absolutely 0 interest in him as a Jet in any capacity. He’s worse than all of our non-Thompson forward options

Thompson is probably done here. Or he better be. He does. Nothing.
Perreault is having another 17-18 season, so I’d sooner extend him than drop him out.
Lewis is what you think Bennett is, in that he is a very solid 4th liner.
