Oilers have been abysmal in drafting and developing prospects for years, the same way the Maple Leafs used to.

Holland or Lowe (if he is still the president, unsure) must clean house the way Shanahan did in 13/14 and fire 27+ household names in the scouting department, and restructure the entire program.

Sunday bloody Sunday they called it in the papers

Gotta remember Holland inherited a cap strapped mess,, On that note, am getting real tired of making excuses for this heartless team.
Our defense needs to be fixed now,we are not going forward until this happens..

The Oilers have gotten better in drafting and development. I honestly think they need to address the goaltending first. Chiarelli really (frank)ed the team on the way out.

I agree, I watched the first game against Montreal, Koskinen was at best an ahl goalie. Chiapet signs him to that ridiculous contract.
This has been going on for too many years and just putting a fresh coat of paint on isn’t working. Fire everyone!

Holland had a bajillion goalies he could have signed this offseason. Even now he could pay up and get someone. His patience is infuriating lol

He went all in on Markstrom and couldnt close the deal. By that time the goalie market was picked over.

A major problem is that Draisaitl (sometimes others but mainly him) plays this game like he thinks it's easy. He goes for the high percentage play about 80% of the time, when it should be 20%. It's a war out there and he is playing like he just won the MVP trophy. That was yesterday Leon, get to work.

Also, I do really like this player., we actually have two dogs named Connor and Leon, but the reason I keep harping on him is that I know he can be better. He's got to move his feet, stop with the highlight reel attempts at easy plays, and start winning battles. The reason I kept calling for a Draisaitl trade is that the Oilers don't need him as much as they need the 3or4 pieces he would bring, and I am a "value" guy. It's my career actually...and the value for Draisaitl is right now the highest it will ever be (in my opinion). It was actually higher last year, and it is my belief that that value is diminishing. My first choice is for Leon to play to his potential...he clearly hasn't been doing that. The worst way to manage assets is to be emotionally attached to those assets. When the value is there...make the deal. I'd be shopping him for sure (and not accepting anything less than a king's ransom and a very lopsided deal that I'm sure someone would step into).

RNH is so valuable to this team and I don't really know if people see it. When he's with McDavid, that line performs because Nuge picks up the slack defensively. The reason Draisaitl, Nuge, and Yamamoto performed is because you've got TWO guys that hustle and play responsibly to make up for Leon's defensive shortcomings (Leon's the fgkn centre by the way! This is backwards).

I know that this isn't the popular opinion, but I agree. Said it for a month or two at the start of last season as well, before he stepped it up a notch (or 5 or 6). For me, aside from the massive defensive lapses (on both D and forward coverage), the most frustrating thing to watch in an Oil game this year has been Draisaitl. I don't want him traded, or moved around, or anything. I just want him to put in half the effort that Yamamoto does. He has all-world talent, and sometimes he sees fit to use it.

Also, Jones is really struggling with his game, I almost felt relieved to see Russell in last game.....and that makes me sad.

There was still lots of options after Markstrom signed. Holland screwed the pooch, if I’m McDavid I’d be pissed.

Rest if Jan: 2 games against WPG, 4 against TOR, 1 against OTT

EDM, needs to win 4 of those 7 so they have 10pts at the 1/4 season mark if not they are franked in short season. Based on how they’re playing now and the goalie situation , even beating OTT is not a given.
