Yes, and there is the problem. more than 25% of your cap is tied up in 2 players who are doing less than nothing in the offensive zone, hurting you in the defensive zone and not really giving a poop while doing it.

Maybe tell Matthews that if he doesn’t start producing him they’re gonna Lou his ass and make him shave that moustache

Well like I mentioned I just hope Keefe doesn’t sit on his hands too long before making changes if things don’t start clicking soon.

Any lineup changes tonight? Is Campbell getting the start?

- Dozzer

IDK

But I hope he does.

Games going to be on CBC as well tonight.

Time is of the essence this season. We can’t wait for October Freddy to go away and we can’t get off to a slow start.

Okay another question...

If Campbell gets the start tonight and shuts the sens out then what?

I hope you’re right.... because I agree 100% on the having 3 good lines

Thought.... Simmonds has looked good and his skating has been strong... would you consider flipping him and Thornton?

- Dozzer

I'd consider flipping anyone.

In theory Thornton works for me because of his unique passing skill set...Simmonds could work but his role seems to be to bring energy, not produce offence.

But if you flip them then you have Thornton on the 4th line....and Thornton has proved to be much much more affective with skilled players where Simmonds can do his thing next to two pylons.

If Matthews finished that behind the net back hand pass by Thornton last night...are we singing a different tune? I think so. only a matter of time till that goes in.

Trade him while his value is at its peak and ride Freddy the rest of the season

Campbell seems like a great guy, would love for him to establish himself as a tandem goalie.

Absolutely agreed... any slump by any player is going to hurt this year no matter when it happens

fell asleep after the first goal.
just watched the 'highlights'.
as expected, freddy five hole very mediocre (only makes incredible stops when already behind) and brodie is barrie 2.0.
leafs need to trade for a proper d-partner for rielly - and give up nylander to do so.
in addition, leafs need a few fw that want to play physical.

dubas stubbornly sticks to his 'hockey new style' view -- which just doesn't work.
can't even blame keefe for this - as with babcock, it's the gm who doesn't give the right players for the coach to win with..

p.s. thornton will be fine - he'll take hyman's spot on the 3rd line and hyman (best fw so far for the leafs those 2 games) will be up with tavares and marner.

hyman - tavares - marner
mikheyev - matthews - nylander
kerfoot - thornton - barabanov
vesey - spezza - simmonds

Agreed.

Nylander, Holl, 2nd for T.Wilson, Orlov and a 4th.

That’s true and more than fair... and I doubt Thornton would embrace an enforcer role like Simmonds has either

Then again I didn’t expect to see Spezza fight against Columbus soooooo.....

IMO you go with the hot hand and if Campbell is hot, you run with him.

If your goalie’s peak value is one win then you might have issues

I think its safe to say the Leafs indeed do have issues..

If Campbell wins, and he looks good, then give him the game vs WPG too. Hold Freddys feet to fire a little bit.

But i highly doubt JC will ever supplant Freddy as the #1

Yeah I doubt it too... if that happened Freddie’s agent would likely raise hell or request a trade since it’s a contract year... that kind of thing can turn into a distraction in a hurry

Who cares about hurting Freddie's feelings at this point? Old coaching phrase - you want more ice time? - play better. Nightmares last night were a revolving door of memories of three softees against the Bruins in the third alternating with three softees in 4 four minutes by the worst team in the NHL.

I remember thinking last night that Freddie was flailing a lot and doesn’t seem to have a good grasp on where the net is behind him. He needs to shake that rust off and do it quickly. Can’t have a struggling goalie while having new lines trying to gel at the same time... that’s just begging for losses
