Still a penalty. - Garnie
57.1 Tripping – A player shall not place the stick, knee, foot, arm, hand or elbow in such a manner that causes his opponent to trip or fall.
Accidental trips which occur simultaneously with a completed play will not be penalized. Accidental trips occurring simultaneously with or after a stoppage of play will not be penalized.
Shouldn't Marner's trip be considered "accidental"? What is a "completed play"?

I saw some good plays from Dermott last night, dudes got quick feet. He just looks a little spazzy, cuz he’s not quite sure what he wants to, or should do, but he seems to be quick enough to figure it out. It’s all about confidence, and I think he’ll continue to smooth out his game.
Overall, I thought the Leafs did a better job with defensive positioning.
I also have a feeling every game is going to be close. Looks like this division is going to be a bit of a crap shoot. Every game is important. Lose a game, drop 4 spots in the standings.

A play he started knowing the result would probably end up with him tripping the guy probably isn’t considered accidental.

Guys step on sticks all the time and a penalty is called.
But I googled it, I’ll find it again shortly where they changed it so you can’t trip just because you touched the puck 1st

It was a great play but I didn't have a problem with the call. There was a high hit on Matthews I think by Chabot that could have easily been a major. Campbell looked much more steady than Freddie in net and should get the next start IMO.

I know many thought the leafs would dominate this division, but I stand by what I said prior to the season, the top teams will be separated by a couple of points. This will be a tight division.

Yeah, I found an article about the NHL adopting Hockey USA's (or whatever it's called) tripping protocol back in 14-15.
But the rule book doesn't make that explicitly clear. A quick glance at the rule book reveals that it's riddled with poor language, ambiguity, and lack of context. I guess there's still a lot of tribal knowledge afoot that isn't codified.

Yeah, I actually wasn't overly bothered by that call to be honest. Just weird that this interpretation isn't more clear in the NHL's rule book.
I'm a bit perturbed that it seems to be open season on Matthews. Why isn't the NHL concerned about protecting its superstars? It's (frank)ed.
I would love to see Keefe go back to Jack on Monday. Hopefully, light a fire under Freddie and create an atmosphere of competition between him Campbell.
