wish list for tonight's game:

Marner with 3+ points.
Thornton with 3 assists.
Simmonds with a PP goal and a fight win.
Hyman with a goal.
Freddie with the shutout.
Brodie not looking as bad as I fear he'll be.
Barabanov playing a good game and looking like a pleasant surprise.
Nylander picks up his man in the d-zone.

I'm not going to rip you a new one, because Equalization is the most misunderstood thing about Confederation, and the press has willfully done a terrible job of explaining it to people over the years.

So I'll explain it to you in a simple way:

Imagine each province went to a bar to watch the Leafs homeopener.

20 beers were ordered.

PEI drank 1 beer.

Ontario drank 3 beers.

Alberta didn't drink any beers.

Quebec drank 12 beers.

NS, NF and NB each also drank a beer.

So the bill comes, and Ontario is forced to pay for 12 beers. Alberta is forced to pay for 8.

Quit saying Ontario drank for free, or that other provinces paid for some of our beers.

And it wouldn't kill you to say thanks for the free beer, no?

You sound like the one with your nose out of joint... This is not the place to debate this at all.

Leaf better have a good one, no more mushy half assed reg seasons and fizzle playoffs.

Honestly have no idea why everyone keeps labeling the Habs as such a great team. I think they'll fight for 4th place at best.

Simmonds should run Price tonight and ruin the Habs season.

He should peaceful protest in his crease.

You get a (frank)ing life.
You're participating in a forum, not policing one.

- joel878

Nah, I need to take Max's side on this one.

Political talk is already bad enough and doesn't (frank)ing belong here, but now hockey is starting, so if the few who constantly talk it would kindly (frank) off, it'd be much appreciated.

I got Marner in my pool, more reason to get mad at him if he doesn't play to his expectations again
- Santo_44

Ya playing at a 1.14 ppg pace the past two years is so not meeting expectations.
1.20.ppg or hes a bust.

I have marner, and took Thornton as a flyer in the late rounds. Hoping he picks up some pp points.

US Olympic gold medalist Klete Keller was at the fascist, white supremacist, terrorist, MAGA, neo-Nazi, seditionist, anti-Semitic insurrection.

I wouldn't dismiss Vancouver or Edmonton. Vancouver is worse in some areas, but they are growing within from their youth at the same time. If Demko continues as he did in the playoffs, they'll be good. I expect some bumps, so I don't know if they're there yet or not. Edmonton's goaltending, for all that it sucks, was still much better than ours last year - so ruling them out when they have 2 Hart winners is a tough thing to do as well.
- Monkeypunk

I am no ruling them out, but they are what they are, middle teams(14th-18th) overall in the league.

They are competitive teams but they aren't good teams. I dont think they will offer much challenge at the top of the division for the Leafs. MTL and CGY are good teams, they will offer some good comp for the top spot.

He wasn't good last year to his 11m standards.

Needs to be better.

They added some size and toughness in Anderson. Let's say that both his 27 goal and 1 goal performances were anomalous, and he's closer to a 15 goal guy. If you get that and a physical presence, it's an improvement.

They added additional size and capability in Edmundson on the back-end.

They replaced some of Domi's offense with Toffoli. I don't like his game much, but you're still looking at 20 goals out of him.

They added Allen in net. Last year the Habs had a revolving door of Lindgren, Kinkaid and 20 year old Cayden Primeau in net. While Leaf fans were loudly wondering if anyone was worse than Hutchinson last year, Kinkaid and Lindgren were tripping over each other trying to find someone to hold their beer. Allen solidifies the backup spot, and should give Price some needed rest.

The largest expectation - and probably the one I disagree with the most - is that Suzuki and Kotkaniemi are ready to have breakout seasons and solidify the Habs down the middle. I don't know if they're there yet. They looked pretty good in the playoffs last year after some rest, but I think they need a year or two to get to where people want them to be this year.

Matthews is going to go god mode this year...I am predicting a massive breakout year for him.

I dont care if Marner is saying he is in great shape, Matthews has some science behind his offseason to back up the "best shape of his life".

He is going to be much quicker out there with losing 15 pounds of body fat.

Mcdavid and Dri can only do so much.

Klefbom out/Barrie in....yikes good luck

- Santo_44

Leafs had 81pts last season
Oilers had 83 pts

No reason they could not finish in the top 3 in this north division.

This going to be a tight division.

I disagree man that is all. Its Leafs, MTL, CGY and the rest will be quite a gap away.

I dont like EDM, VAN or WPG, I stated why a few pages ago.

I see regression in EDM 1 and 2 special teams. Klefbom is a major loss.

For what it's worth, losing 2019-20's version of Max Domi isn't losing much.

And from everything I saw so far, I think both KK and Suzuki will surprise you.
