It's nuts to give an aging 4th liner 4 years. And he still has Komorov with 2 years left at 3 million per. Never overpay bottom 6 talent

I don’t have an issue with the dollars, just two years too long. Martin is an important part of the islanders culture and not bringing him back I believe would be a mistake. I would even go as far to say that he has qualities that would make him a good fit to be a captain if Lee wasn’t around.

I do have to agree with Ben though as it does make the Johnston signing more questionable, especially when you consider guys like leivo, kahun and sheary all signed for less.

Either way once boychuck is on ltir the isles will have the space to sign barzal to a short or long term contract. While I won’t place any bets I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s signed before game 1.

Martin was offered more from other teams. He took less for longer term to say on the Island. It was a good sign. Complaining about a contract of a guy who plays every game that is $1.5 mill is absurd. Complaining about Ross Johnston making $1 mill is equally absurd. He is going to make 250k over league minimum and he will be a healthy scratch for most games. He will be in games when they play against teams with a legit heavy weight or if someone gets hurt. .... my guess is Kuhnackl will get signed too for around 800k once the season starts.

Unfortunately he didn’t take those supposed offers from other teams (there is no way in hell under the leagues current situation that is true. There are much better players getting offered MUCH less comparably rt now). How much do Martin and Johnston make combined?

"Your wrong. He can be signed today and could have been signed a month ago. It’s totally not helping the Islanders that their 1C and a PPC is not training with the team. Especially this year when training camp is 10 days and it’s a shortened ~50 game season. But if you think this was planned then you keep telling yourself that.

In the mean time here’s an article you should read which might help you understand the cap/ LTIR etc. I chose this one because it easy reading.

https://www.dkpittsburghs...ry-cap-penguins-space-tlh " Nyilses 7 from other page.

I love that you sent this and talked to me like a child and you still don't get how this works.... it's honestly funny to me.

Let me point out what you think makes you correct but actually is why you are wrong in your own article.

"Teams are allowed to exceed the cap in the offseason, but only by 10 percent. They must be cap compliant by the time the season starts."

"It's a common misconception that placing a player on long-term injured reserve makes their contract "come off of the books." That's not true. Rather, the team is given a new salary cap while the player is on long-term injured reserve."

ok... so one other point is you cannot designate anyone to LTIR until the season starts. Now you might need to take a minute here to figure this out....

If you can't use LTIR to be cap compliant, as I said... and you can't designate until day 1 of the season. .... That has absolutely NOTHING to do with the 10% over the cap allowed before the season starts. That is what must really be confusing to you. YOU can't be OVER THE CAP DAY 1 ... you will forfeit games if you are over the cap day 1...

That is where u seem to no longer pay attention... you seem to think that 10% is proof that shows me how wrong I am... it's not and talking to me like a child showing me that point over and over again is a riot.

The Islanders will be at the cap limit on Day 1 or as close to it as possible once the agreed on contract by Greene, Martin, Kuhnackl, and others are filed. .. whatever their number is at that moment is their Cap limit.

Then once the season starts they will immediately put Boychuk on LTIR. you get his $ to spend at that point and anyone else they put on LTIR.. NOT BEFORE..

The only other way to get cap compliant is to start waiving players to save $1 mill a player.. so if you are $6 mill over the cap.. start waiving 6 guys b/c u can ONLY save $1 mill per waive.

enjoy your day

Silly statement
Those contracts, aside from Shattenkirk, that were bought out contributed to many good seasons and a helluva lot of playoff games
Those buyouts were critical in restarting the team. Girardi Lundqvist and Staal were critical components of a lot of winning...yet, and sadly, no cup to show for it.

It's definitely too long of a term but he does have value to the organization in the dressing room and on the bench so it's not the end of the world. But coming from a guy who's team is stuck with contracts like Jacob Trouba who makes similar money to Victor Hedman, I think is kind of funny

Boomer was saying on his radio show this morning that Martin turned down more money elsewhere because he wanted to stay. Not sure what he has to gain by lying but whatever I don't give a sh!t either way.
