Carol Schram: Update on Canucks prospects on loan, plus the ones that got away Checking in on the Canucks prospects who are currently on loan to the European leagues, as well as players who have come from some of the draft picks that Jim Benning has dealt away over the years.

Thanks Carol seems most of the best Canuck prospects are getting in games. Then there are those that are waiting for camp like Rathbone, Rafferty and Lind. Are they in Vancouver and skating yet?

Thanks Carol, I’m not sure I agree that the Bear Cheese trade is a wash, especially given the teams overwhelming need for top 4 RHD and that the final year of Sven’s contract is one of the things holding the team back from spending on better talent. He was a decent performer, when healthy, but they could have easily found that in free agency and finished where they did. I get what Jim was trying to do back then, but he missed far more often than he hit.

If they all lived together they wouldn’t need to keep it a secret.

Of the 10 teams over the cap 7 yet to get to 23 players. There are 3 more teams that will be over the cap once they get to 23. This is approximate if not exact

With over 40% of the league in that boat something must be in the works. A temporary luxury tax could be coming. Adding to that only min contracts or ELC’s might only be allowed to reach full 23 rosters so rich teams cannot take advantage nor go intentionally over once decided.

If that were to happen what form could a luxury tax take?
1) Monetary
2) additional picks for compliant teams
-scaled index by cap spent for what round
3) lose picks on a scaled index for what round
4) compliance buy out
5) something altogether not thought of
-taxi squad contracts

If the season is cancelled will every player have a year removed from his contract?

If yes we lose an elc year for many players.
If no that is another problem on its own.

That is a serious issue to get sorted out.
