Ben Shelley: Anthony Stolarz could find success as Anaheim's backup goalie

Who plays in S.D. if Stolarz is the backup? I can see him being the Gulls starter this season, then joining the Ducks next season as their b/u. I think Miller comes back for another season. He's still training at Ice Park and there's no rush to sign now.

I've always liked his game.. and he kicked ass in SD. I think he'd be as good or better than RM ..

Played golf with Ducks mgmt. today. I asked them specifically about Miller. They said he won't play if there is any type of quarantine bubble, he doesn't want to be away from his family for that long. Can't blame him there. If there is no bubble, Miller will sign on opening day after Kesler's LTIR goes into effect. Told me a ton of crazy stuff in regards to a bunch of teams and the lockdown. They said as many as 10 teams may not be able to pay their players if there are no fans in the stands next season and are lobbying hard to just scrap the season. 1/3 of the league going into default is not the best news. they told me it's just as bad in baseball. The other interesting item was the about-face on the re-build of the Ducks. The Samueli's aren't too concerned about the upcoming season but they want the team to be competitive when O.C Vibe opens up in 2024. They feel a non--competitive team will hamper the interest and development of the restaurants and bars planned for the area. Can't argue with them on that front what with Downtown Disney just down the street.

I agree. I guess we have to define "competitive." If by 2024 they mean actually being in the Cup conversation, then I'm all for it. But if "competitive" is defined as simply battling for a playoff spot, then I'm disappointed.

I just wonder if we should look to trade him... I’m not advocating for it... but I think with the way the league needs good goalies ... we could get a very nice return..
