Seems like an OK deal for both sides.

A bit more $ than I would have liked. But the 2 years is good as Jake will still be an RFA and now has 2 years to show better consistency.

I think it’s a quality bridge deal for a guy I expect to continue to grow and contribute. Maybe a touch high, but not glaring.

Bruins did fine.

I like the deal for both sides. Hopefully he costs us more on his next deal.

Yawl still need to sign a LD, do you really want Chara back to fill that spot, or a more mobile puck mover??? Also there is an Athletic article that thinks you should offer sheet Sergechev for that spot.
Or do you just sign Vatanen??? Doesn't seem likely or you would have done it by now.
Thoughts???

I’ve been beating the offer sheet Sergachev drum since the summer, but it’s just a pipe dream.

They’ve got Gryz, Vaak, Zboril and Lauzon on the left side. Not ideal to be that inexperienced but you gotta find out what these guys have got eventually. Lauzon looked great in a 3rd pair role and Zboril finally had a big growth year. If one of them can’t fill in the top 4 I’m sure they can at least tread water until the TDL

You could probably put the screws to Tampa with an AAV that would only result in a 1st, 2nd, & 3rd as compensation. I’d do that in a heart beat.

Bruins have about the same CAP space as TB so not sure how they could swing it but TB couldn't.

You must be looking at just the numbers and not the full picture. Yes, currently we are almost identical in cap space (approx $2.9M) but we are filled out (minus Chara) and Tampa still has three pretty big RFAs unsigned (including Sergachev). They can't sign those three without dumping salary somehow.

I guess their priorities will decide how hard they try to sign him.

Either way I don't think the Bruins can fit him in under the cap - assuming he signed an offer sheet.

You have some time as Marchand and Pasternak will be LTIR for a while and WTH is with Miller??? Will he be LTIR for much longer?

Bruins could offer sheet Sergechev $6M for 5yrs. Compensation is only a 1st and a 3rd! You have time to whittle $3M off the payroll and it will be easy as you have very desirable players. But with LTIR you have more time to figure it out.

OT but best wishes to Johnny Rocket, just read that he is retiring due to the eye injury from the skate incident last season.

One of my favorites. I miss seeing him patrol the blue line.

Watched some interview clips with him about the retirement...was very clear he wasn't ready to hang up the skates. Good guy and sad to see his career end this way.
