I hope there is a season this year. But I would understand if there wasn’t. Just so many variables and a vaccine will not get to the masses until mid next year if we are lucky. |

As an "employee" they should realize that their jobs depend on the health of the "employer" It's not as if there is another league that they can play in. Minimum salaried players will obviously be hurt the most but 60% is still a good living for those players. |

Sixers had a good night last night. Can we let them run the Eagles offseason too? |

As I read it, it's a salary deferment not a pay cut. I dont know the specifics of the agreement, but I'd imagine there's a very specific payment schedule. Isn't some of it in escrow? Players need to suck it up for a little while. |

Seriously. Morey saw issues and attended to them. Are they fixed? Who knows. But he did attend to them.
Really like Seth with the team we have around him. He’s gonna feast, and now Embiid should stay down where he belongs.
Not bad dumping that Horford deal, either. |

Love the Sixers moves. Heck if all they did was just dump Horford's contract I'd have been ok. But adding Curry and Green. Nice job. Richardson was a nice player, just a bit too inconsistent. |

Escrow is a lost cause for the players. Virtually guaranteed they're gonna lose all of it next season, so that's ~15% of their salary right there. Maybe more. |

The Horford dump was fantastic. Nothing against the player, just didn't fit here at all.
I also like the kid they drafted out of Kentucky.
Thank you Houston Rockets owner for letting us have Daryl Morey. |

Brand should retire as Morey undid all his prior moves. Micic if he comes over will be a quality player. Would have liked to see him stay.
They cleared up cap space My guess is something else in the works. East gonna be very tough. |

Its a business -no "should" or "need."
They are expected to extract ever penny they can get over the course of their playing careers. And owners the reverse.
No malice or love, no feelings. Just the way it is supposed to work. |

Yeah. Tough making hundreds of thousands to millions playing a game. I more see how it impacts the lower leagues. But still. How many are still out of work making close to nothing. |

I am not sure I exactly see what you are saying. NHL Players taking less will not impact the minor league players, unless they can come up with some sort of compensation scheme where savings from NHL players will benefit the AHL players and so on. I doubt it, given the low leverage of the latter.
Depending on such ad hoc charity for dire situations is not very effective. In every developed country I am aware of, Covid unemployment assistance is significantly more generous than here, and significantly more sustained.
In most western European countries government has stepped in like an insurer, paying employers to keep employees at about 80% of salaries. In Canada, unemployment assistance was much more prompt and sustained. I haven't checked recently what the Canadian unemployment rate is but a few weeks ago, unemployment rates in western Europe had risen 1%, whereas in the US, it had risen 8% due to the pandemic.
Its hardly the players fault that the such institutionalized response does not exist here.

Unemployment rates are measured in percentages, which are independent of absolute numbers of people in the labor force.

Did the owners just ask for too much in an attempt to save time in negotiations? I didn’t like that they wouldn’t admit that this season would not have the full number of games played. Everyone thought that since March. It is pretty valid to wonder how revenue projections from late this summer could be so far off. Were they being excessively optimistic about this season?

When Simmons passes it down low, or he (or Harris) drives to the the hoop, Seth Curry will be a godsend really to pop the shot. To a lesser degree, Green, but one should he open.
There’s potential there. |

Has there been a starting point guard in the history of the league who will not/cannot shoot? |

Yeah not what I was saying. Don’t feel bad if those making millions to play a game have to take a pay cut. Those in the ahl do not make nearly as much as nhl players. Not sure what the salaries in the lower leagues are. And there are people in far worse positions.
