Me thinks he’ll make league minimum.

Barzal on the other hand, will probably get paid around 7.5.

Barzal is not 8 mill to 9 mill range yet. He still has a lot to prove. 7 to 7.5 is more reasonable for the next contract.

There are people that think this is an overpayment? That’s hysterical.

Great deal for your top D. I am curious what a 4-5 year deal on the guy would have cost.

As for Barz, he will be 8.5M AAV minimum. He's just too good. No way he signs a 2 year 7M deal like some guys are saying, and wouldn't you prefer to have him here long term? If he signs a 1-2 year deal, I'd be concerned about how serious he is about remaining an islander.

To many bad long term signings, this guy should of been offered a 6-8 year deal. But hey we got Leddy, Boychuck, Ladd, Clutterbuck, Bailey, Eberle, uncle Leo, for the next few years. Next year it’s Pellech he is a excellent shutdown D to sign. Will management spin his trade for someone like they did Toews. I would like to see the core made of Barzal, Lee, Nelson, Beau, Cizickas, J.P, Pulock, Pellech, Hobson, Mayfield, Sorokin. The wasted millions on these slow aging players is a shear way to standings extinction and annual top 10 drafting.

Not sure if you’re paying attention but due to covid players aren’t getting what they’re worth and why would he sign a long term deal at a low number when he could wait it out and cash out in a couple years? That’s pretty much what’s going on league wide.

Looking at Toews at 4 per. This is a great deal. Barzal gets a deal similar to Nico in NJ. at 7.2 IMHO. Anything over 2 years at 7.2 is a huge win.
Covid has certainly lowered the market price.

My guess on Barzal is 3 years at around $7 mill a year or less. If he takes a 2 year deal is he a UFA after those 2 years or still an RFA? .. since I was right for once on Pulock let's see if I can stay hot.

Pulock was a great contract. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool. I love that no matter who the Isles sign and at what price we have a few dopes who come in here to tell us how much we overpaid. lol

I would think he’ll take a shorter two year deal to cash out in his prime in that third year imo. The way the league is now because of covid his salary is not going to be what it should be and where it could be in a couple of years. Both him and his agent know this.

Staple Article...

One of our panel experts from a month ago projected three years, $7 million per for Barzal. Given how tight things are financially for the Isles, Barzal might be able to get that number for two years and have a faster track to a bigger payday. But keeping it below $7.5 to $8 million seems crucial for Lamoriello, since anything above that would require more than one contract be shed. If Barzal comes in at $7 million or lower, Lamoriello could conceivably put Ladd, Boychuk, Hickey and Komarov on waivers during training camp and gain $4.3 million in cap space by burying all four deals in the minors. Not ideal, but it’s possible with a lower AAV for Barzal.

The simplest route may be using long-term injured reserve on one of those four mentioned above, though LTIR is anything but simple. The trade market for bad contracts has pretty much dried up. Either way, Lamoriello will have to be creative, even with Pulock in at a decent number.

Seems like a slight overpayment for a Covid-era deal........unless his game has improved significantly since he left the Isles. mdw?

He played good from what little I saw put up some decent points but I believe most Ranger fans feel it was a product of his line mates more than him. Think that was an “in the middle” number between what his agent and Gorton proposed to avoid arbitration. Good stop gap 2nd line center till their other players mature imo.

was on pace for a very solid year last season. full season would have been over 20 goals and over 60 points easily. so He might have finally hit his stride.

found the info on the AHL part interesting in Staple's article. I thought u couldn't bury $$ in the AHL anymore but I guess you can busy some?! not sure... Still not sure about when you can use the LTIR to get to cap and when you can't...

if like Cheif said you can't use LTIR until season starts and you need to be cap compliant when camp starts .. could we see a Barzal handshake deal in the top desk drawer done... that doesn't get signed until the season starts?
