Or maybe an old fart who does his job and moves a contract instead of just giving away one of his best players for 2 squirrel farts

He’s got plenty of time and not sure I would label Toews as one of his best players. If we trade any of our remaining RFA’s by all means freak out till then it’s kind of stupid imo.

He was definitely one of our better players. People think because the old man won 25 years ago with a team from New Jersey that he's incapable of making blunders and they couldn't be more wrong

I was and am a Toews fan but he was certainly not one of our best players in the playoffs. I’m not happy about having to give him up and I’m not going to brush it off as no big deal as some have on here but there are multiple, more important players on this team then Devon Toews. Sucks he had to go but let’s see what happens before we start condemning Lameriello after making it to the ECF.

Any contract RP signs with us is a step in the right direction. The length doesn't matter right now.

Pulock will get a bridge deal to when they lose a bunch of contracts (and the cap goes up). Then he can get a bigger payday. My guess is 2 years around $5 mill a year. Don't see Lou giving an RFA 7 mill. ...

Toews was a good player but if you ranked him among our Young D-men he would not be above RP or Pelech. He would not be as valuable as Mayfield b/c of Scott's $1.5 mill contract, and you wouldn't be able to protect him next summer. You don't have to protect Dobson, and my guess is Leddy wasn't worth much in this market. You got 2 seconds for Toews... it's not great but it's something.

Yes all the teams that just made zero dollars in revenue from the end of the regular season and playoffs, and are expected to make near-zero dollars from the entire upcoming season and playoffs, are dying to take expensive contracts for below-average players off the Islanders' hands. That's definitely on Lou.

that Ryan Pulock has agreed to a two-year deal worth $5-million per, the #Isles now have just about $3.9-million in cap space and a second buyout window opening in 48 hours.

Only players who can be bought out are those with AAVs over $4-million.

Interesting thing I read in Staple article about LTIR. If you put someone on LTIR whatever the number is when you put him on LTIR that is your limit. ... so if you put Ladd on LTIR right now.. You don't get to add his $5.5 mill to your number. If you sign Barzal and are 4 mill over the cap and THEN put Ladd on LTIR.. you don't have another $1.5 mill of cap. Your new cap number is $4mill over cap ($85.5 mill).. None of this is a tremendously big deal but I found it interesting.

It also tells you they will not put anyone on LTIR until the very last minute.

Great that they got him locked up at a good price. Not great that they're going to have to either overpay to keep him, or lose him to UFA, in two years.

I don't think that buyout window really helps the Islanders though. Buying out Komarov would've saved some money but he's under $4M AAV. Ladd/Boychuk buyouts save them almost nothing. There's really nobody making over $4M that is worth buying out, unless they really do something out of left field.

LTIR isn't going to help, not right away anyway, because it doesn't kick in until the season starts and they need to be cap-compliant by the end of training camp, if I recall. So yes, Ladd may ultimately go to LTIR, but it doesn't help them to get under the cap by the time they need to be.

I would’ve preferred more term, but like the price point.

Yeah it's a great deal for now. Probably will face some hurdles in two years, but for now it's good news.

His deal will come due at the same time as Boychuck, Leddy, and Hickey. THe money will be there for him for his next deal.

Yes, but he'll be a UFA who's about to get his one single shot at landing a big money contract. Isles will have to compete with the open market and they'll pay a premium for him because of it. Not to mention the fact that you might also see Barzal sign a deal with the same or similar term and he's priority #1.

Listen, no complaints from me. It's great deal and we have two years before we really need to worry about the next one.

cheif..

(still not allowing me to quote first page)..

I thought u were allowed to be 10% over the cap until the season starts..and then can put a player on LTIR right before the season begins to achieve that goal.
